Well I just found out from Soon2bsh that he is running a gallon of Xylene mixed with 91 octane pump gas with his stock JR electronics on his JRSC lude. He runs normally at 1 click on the BTC.
Is this safe? What kind of octane rating could be expected from the addition of Xylene?

That's actually pretty popular with the Supra guys...I think they got it from the GN's. You can use Toluene or Xylene, both of which are found in your normal bottled octane boosters. Most of them run a 30% mix (2 gals gas w/ 1 gal toluene/xylene) with 93 octane to give 99 (w/ toluene) or 100 (w/ xylene) fuel. With Xylene you have to add a lubricant so that the cylinder walls don't get washed, most use a couple ounces of Marvel's Mystery Oil.
when u guys say jr electronics what is that ? sorry as u know i am new ... i have a jrsc does that mean i have these jr electronics... and what do these electronics consist of..

Xylene is also less volatile than Toluene. Right now, the weather usually is around the 30's. Should I worry about my car not starting up?

YIKES. i thought it would be cheaper than that. 11.5 gallons of race gas and 4.5 gallons of normal gas would give you the same result for only 3 or 4 bucks more, at most. at that price, i wouldn't want to deal with drums of flammable and untested fuels in my garage.

Yah, but I can buy Toulene 1 block from my house =D
There is a paintshop that is only a 3 minute walk (30 second drive :P) from where I live. I dont plan on buying a 50 gal drum though, I dont have any room for it. I figured a 5 gal drum would be better anyways, if I decide to do this again.
I have been doing this since WAAYYY back in the day. I still use the mixture in my Porsche. I personally use Xylene. I use a 35% mixture with 94 octane. I buy my Xylene by the 55 gallon drum full. I pay contractor price from a local paint supply store, it costs me 295 bucks for a 55 gallon drum delivered to my garage, they also take the old drum away for me. the 55 gallon drum will usually last me about 6-8 months. This is a good alternative for folks that don't have access to race gas or av gas. I used to run 100LL Av gas in my Supra, but it can cause problems for the emissions system (Cat, O2, egr etc.) My Supra had none of the emissions euip, so it ran fine. But running it on the Xylene mix was cheaper. I add 2 TBSP of Marvel Mystery Oil as a top end lubricant, and the cars run fine.

i've been running xylene in my car w/ the nitrous, and before i got the bottle i'd use some occasionally, as it was worth some extra power. 30% mix. i got it from my dsm driving roomate-- never heard about the mm oil, though. do you add it to the gas or the fuel? is it nessacary with both xylene and toulene, or just the xylene?
btw, i've been using ACE xylol (xylene w/ some toulene in it) with ****ty ca 91 octane. Usually works out cheaper than buying 100 octane at the 76 near my house as i race about 50 miles from my house. saving the xylene till i get to the runs saves $$ over driving out on 100 octane.

..to the gas and the fuel??? hehehe aren't those one in the same?
But yah you should also add MMO if you run Toluene too.

To answer the "Is this safe?" part...
I'm sure the Xylene is helping him, but he still has no idea if he has a detontation problem because he has no true knock/detonation sensing equipment (ie. J&S Safeguard, Link Knockfinder, etc.).
His answer would be something like, "but I don't hear any detonation!"

would this hurt a near stock car?
what added power? running high octane fuels only adds power if it allows you to run more timing. there is NO performance benefit to running 10000000 octane fuel vs 91 octane if you are running the same timing on both.
stock preludes don't have precombustion or detonation issues with 91 octane fuel, so you wouldn't see any benefit at all.
