winter evening; cold, dense air

I have been generally disappointed with my low end power since I put the JRSC on, specifically below 3k rpm. Everyone with a manual tranny is having trouble keeping traction in first. Not me.

Tonight, however, was the first really chill night here in the Bay Area. I decided to take the lude out for a night spin, and wow, what a world of difference. It pulled much harder tonight below 3k. I'm still not having a traction problem (I don't expect to with my SS tranny), but there was definitely an improvement in the fun factor in the low rpm range, and I was still running last-green-led on my J&S a/f meter set to its narrow resolution. I'm just running this thing pig, pig rich. I've got to get that wideband.

ahhhhhhhhhh cold weather.

when you say last green, do you mean the last one before "amber" or the very last one on the gauge? what's the voltage?

Yes, last on the gauge. I have to double check, but I believe the voltage is .98-.99 V. I'll do some datalog runs late tonight when it gets cold.

Did some datalogging just now. Voltages are .95-.97 during boost. Intake air temps no higher than 110 F. I'll do some more in a few hours when it is colder.

.95 to .97...... you are indeed running very very rich. you could knock it back a smidgen, .92 is plenty rich if you are getting that after a couple hard runs. (it will decrease as you push it harder and harder)

have you changed WOT settings since the dyno? any idea what you were seeing on your primary O2 then, to correspond it roughly to a true value?

I set everything in the WOT tables back to 0 when I started using the boost tables, figuring that the WOT tuning that had been done would no longer be correct once I started using the boost tables, as the boost tables are additive to the WOT table. Sad really, what a waste of $400. That would have paid for a wideband.

I'm not sure what my O2 sensor readings were when I was on the dyno. We had datalogged with the PMS software to keep an eye on the intake air temps, but I didn't think of looking at the O2 sensor readings and I didn't save the logs. Whoops

I was considering waiting for the next version of the Tech Edge that is going to support lower power voltage, but it was supposed to be out this month and it is not out yet. I'm just going to order the current version and swap out the AEM alt pulley. I'm reading 10.5V on my electrical system at idle right now, and I figure that is probably not good for my battery in the long run, so that pulley should go anyway.
