VPAC Is In

Finally, the mystery box arrived yesterday!

I opened it up, and to my surprise, the VPAC's a lot smaller than I had orginally anticipated. Judging by its size, the device would easily fit in the small area beneath the cruise control box.

However, the length of wire supplied wasn't enough to reach, and I was too lazy to sit around and extend all the wires last night.

All the necessary parts were included, included T-Taps, the connectors, and even shrink-wrap tubing! Due to my need for quick installs, I opted to use the supplied T-Taps and only needed to solder 4 wires. The installation manual's diagrams were clear and correct (as verified by the Helm's manual). It took me a good hour, just because I'm slow and deliberate when it comes to these things.

Once completed, I took the car for a test drive. I originally set it to ~5K just to make sure everything worked out normally. They did (thank god!). Then I cranked it down to 3K....

Midrange throttle response is noticeably improved. The car doesn't behave apparently difference from idle-3K, only because the blower hasn't hit full boost quite yet, so no change should be expected. The biggest change is seen from ~3.7K - 5K, where you can see the tachometer shoot up much faster a lot earlier in the powerband. It's actually quite nifty!

Luckily for the engine, VTEC is only engaged in the same manner as a stock engine (correct oil pressure, temperature, engine temperature, load, rpm, etc), so light throttle at 4K RPM won't send you spinning your tires into madness. Slamming it at 3K, however, is another story

The torque curve just seems so goddamn smooth from 3k until redline..there's no end in sight--the powerband feels very linear. Being spoiled by a stock VTEC setting, this somewhat sucks, as you subconciously expect an extra 'kick' at 5K, but it's just not there...

The only other difference now is that I no longer get wheelspin in first gear when I mash the throttle (as witnessed in my posted videos).

I now get wheel hop.

*shrugs*

Not only that, but the unit even has a blue light which activates upon VTEC engagement!

As always, be on the lookout for a dyno by this weekend.

Grats Iranman !! haha i have finally Tracked you down !! i seen numerous post about your JRSC Lude on Tamparacing.com, hostboard.com and a few other sites.......and i finally found the webpage that you regulary post on well i guess you being a Mod now on this board helps ....i wanted to email you with a few questions about the JRSC, but i have read most of the sticky on the guide to supercharging etc on numerous sites.....so no need to Nag yeah hahahah. Just like to say you have one awesome car......and i think your Lude is pretty much the Pioneer Lude to be JRSC'ed; the most popular JRSC'ed Lude that is ....
Hopefully i can get my Kit installed as soon as it freaking gets here BTW.........i do have one question....Doesnt the JRSC for the Lude comes with a MAP CONTROLLER ??

Well this is from Jacson Racing's website about the VPAC.......
as you can see the VPAC can set the VTEC anywhere from 2500 rpm to 6000 rpm........... on the Prelude DYNO with the VPAC they did set the VTEC to kick in at 3000RPM by doing that, the JRSC PRELUDE lost Peak HP from 234.5 HP to 228.6 HP but gained in Torque from 182 lbs of torque to 198.2 lbs of torque ......

BTW what would you rather have More HP or More Torque for Racing Purpose ??

This is from the JR Site:

Take control of your VTEC actuation with our Jackson Racing VPAC. Our unique amplifier comes with an adjustable dial that allows VTEC engagement from 2500 rpm to 6000 rpm. Jackson Racing has developed the VPAC to allow the consumer to control when the VTEC system is activated for different racing applications. The VPAC uses signals from all of the important VTEC supply inputs and amplifies these signals to change the engagement point of the VTEC system. This means no guessing on how much extra fuel you will need. Our controller accesses the VTEC fuel map on the ECU for continued proper fuel delivery once VTEC is engaged. Factory safety features such as proper engine temperature and oil pressure are retained to ensure maximum safety. For maximum performance on forced induction cars we recommend installing our Jackson Racing Boost Timing Controller. Our VPAC compliments our BTC to put full timing back into the car when VTEC is actuated. The VPAC sports a Jackson Racing logo that lights up in red when the car is started and a VPAC logo that lights up blue when the VTEC engagement point you have set is reached

Yes, the Prelude EMS contains both the BTC and the MAP Controller. Another reason why the Prelude kit costs more than the other kits.

Actually, you're looking at two different dyno graphs. The 234WHP dyno you speak of is their main 'claim-to-fame' dyno. The 228WHP dyno is only found on the VPAC page, as both the stock VTEC and VPAC graphs peak around 228WHP. There is no 'loss' in power. Don't ask me why one dyno claims 234 and another claims 228. Call it poor tuning....

Thanks for posting the info on the VPAC!

Btw, where in FL are you located?

It was talked about how with a V-afc, setting the vtec level much lower then under 4,500 started to lose power.I don't know what the effects this might have on FI but i'd leave that to the dyno
