vented carbon fiber hood

does anyone have one in their turboed lude? the turbo in my car makes my engine bay REALLY hot and even dry rots alot of my hoses...i need a hood wit a vent but i'm really afraid of the rain hitting the turbo and manifold...will this cause warping or cracking? i saw in other threads that it might...is there a way to avoid this?

I'm trying to figure that out as well. It would only make sense that the manifold would wrap or crack given such extream differences in temps. But what do i know about metallurgy, I'm only on my first year...

Yes, it will warp and crack...I've done research as I would like to get one also. You can get something that vents higher up like towards the windshield...But a vent that's right over the manifold is a big NO NO..Especially you, NtPrelude living in TX. I'm in Florida so I have it worse but I wouldn't do it unless its something that's not anywhere near the manifold..It would still be effective.

yea when i did a search i saw you pretty much had the same question...
hmmm..what if i bought and made an aluminum heat shield over the manifold...also doesn't the vent on the cf hood go over the radiator? i heard that somewhere..could be wrong..

A regular CF Hood will still be able to dissipate heat much better then a Stock Metal hood. I have a Fiberimages Hood on my car and after some hard driving, I can pop the hood and feel a noticable difference between the underhood temperature. With the CF hood, the underhood temp. is much cooler then with the stock hood.

Also, I am almost positive that the manifold will crack if its soaked with water while its heated up. Its like getting your brake rotors red hot and then drive into a puddle. Your rotors will warp instantly.

How much did you get the fiberimages hood? So do you recommend wrapping the downpipe from the turbo to keep it from warping when it hits water?

I got my hood for 575 shipped from Imoto. But this was like 2 years ago when Imoto carried the hoods. But now I heard you can't find one for cheaper then 650 shipped. I don't know about the downpipe being affected or not because its pretty much like your exhaust piping. I would be worry about the Manifold and Turbo itself more then I would the DP. Then again, better safe then sorry I always say.

but if you think about it...on regular non-turboed cars, wouldn't the vented hood hit the headers and warp them? why would they make a hood that isn't street drivable?

Now I don't know if these vented hoods are street drivable or not, but they'll make ANYTHING if (uneducated) people will buy it .

Hey Tuned_lude_sh, do you use hoodpins? I hear that you don't need hoodpins for fiberimages hoods, but some say they still use it.

They don't require the use of hoodpins but it is recommended. I have hoodpins on mine because I tried driving around without hoodpins and it was very unstable at speeds above 60mph. I just don't want a Hood popping up on me when I am cruising on the freeway on a windy day.

If I have a choice I would rather not have hoodpins but safety first. Besides the pins grew on me bigtime

okay i dont got a turbo lude but i seen this happen before a guys manifold is right under the vented part of the hood. i thought about it and i dont know if itll work. you should trying getting some sheet metal and placing it under the vented area to redirect the water into the radiator. while still having the ventilation of the engine bay

I also thought about this, but adding a piece of sheet metal to redirect the water kinda moves the ventalation as well. I mean the vent being on top the manifold is to release the heat from the manifold, but if you added that piece of sheet metal, its kinda like moving the vent, no?
