Well I just got done doing a valve adjustment - and I didn't pull the blower.
I found out that if you loosen the black adapter bracket, and the jackshaft casting, there's enough room to pull the valve cover off. THere's no need to take the blower off at all. It saved me a lot of time.
I adjusted mine to 0.005" INTAKE, and 0.006" EXHAUST. That's 0.001" tighter than the low end of the honda spec. I figured that since my EGT's came down about 100F when I went to hondata a long time ago, if I didn't burn a valve the first year I had the car, I won't now with the tighter valves, and lower EGT's.
Too bad there's snow on the ground right now. I can't wait till summer!
Ya, the only issue is power steering line that runs over the valve cover. You need to get enough slop in the jackshaft and adapter plate to make the power steering hose slip between the valve cover and adapter plate. I didn't disconnect the adapter plate from the jackshaft. One allen screw wouldn't come loose. if you can pull these two pieces apart, there should be even more room.
I took me about 6 hours total, being VERY anal about the lash.
It's quiet as hell right now! Not a single tick In the motor. I wonder if going .001" tighter than spec is really worth any power? Or if it's just theoretical mumbo jumbo that's not even measurable?
Do you mean you think your holding the valve open when hot? I dought it. The valve would have burned up.
If your talking the extra 0.001" lift that shouldn't do anything. The spring has a tolerance on the LD curve it provides. The extra 0.001" will fall within that tolerance.
well.... every expert out there has had to try it for the first time, sometime. It's really not that hard. I think there's a write up in the 5th gen FAQ forum. give it a read.

i guess I'm not sure what you mean?
I don't know what I was thinking at the time, I was thinking you were adjusting them more than .001 out of spec.
Also, I'm unsure about the compression thing, except that I've read other people reporting improvements in compression after properly adjusting the valves. Maybe my number 2 piston is just going out
I haven't done it either but I plan on doing it myself. Have Helm, will travel....
Ummm, Bay Area valve adjustment party???
Hmm this doesnt sound like a bad idea aye ? I live in Brentwood! You know where blacktrax is? My friend told me about them and I think thats where I am going to get my valves adjusted. I dunno what do you think ?
