Turboing an 2.3L Si

Ok guys I'm about to take the leap to the land of Forced Induction.. but before I do... I'm probably gonna find myself a complete FMAX kit or something to the likes, haven't ironed out the details yet, just want to ask another question...

Are there any upgrades I should do to my car/engine before I slap that turbo on it? It's a 93 Si with less than 80,000 miles on the engine... Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

money

Money? Oh is that the question? Well I dont got a lot of it, but I got enough to upgrade my engine internals or whatever is needed to turbo, I mean I'm sure that would probly be a little cheaper than replacing a blown engine..

so figure 10,000?

$3.5k for the kit
$3k for the kit
1.5k for stand alone?
1.5k for misc.
.5k for tuning.

hows that sound? is this the route you would go?

Well if you have 80k miles on it I would get some new piston rings definately.. Its not a must but damn if you start running your car hard you can really damage them and have a problem with lost compression.. if your gonna run high boost, probobly anything over 9 I would rework my bottom end, meaning new rods, forged pistons etc.. If you really want to pump up your boost and run faster than ****, then get some JE Pistons with like a 8:1 or 8.5:1 compression ratio, this allows you to pull some maaajor power without putting a lot of stress on the engine.. well hope i helped... and i have heard excellent things about the f-max kit.. and h23's are excellent turbo engines!

how high could i boost on a stock motor(h23) with the fmax kit? like what would be a safe daily driving boost? if i modded more, like bolt ons and stuff, would i have to upgrade my internals eventually? or only if i turn my boost up?

I have the same year and milage as your car and I bolted on the kit and blew apart my pistons, sooooo I recommend building bottom end up, cuz that's what I had to do..leanred the hard way. I have the FMAX kit with upgraded ball bearing turbo, PMS system, iron sleve,s JE Piston, Crower Rods, AVC-R, Bigger injectors etc.......total appx. $6k.....

You blew your pistons because you ran too lean and detonated.

My motor has 73,000 miles on it. Compression is high and the motor is extremely healthy. It loves boost.

actually if your motor is health the best thing to do is just put new performance piston rings on.. as long as your staying at 9 psi or under..

Total Seal makes the best piston rings, gapless and all that stuff.

What evidence do you have of this? I am assuming none. OEM Rings don't fit on oversize pistons firstly. Do not berate any manufacturer without sufficient data to uphold it.

Okay, Spanky. Why are you recommending them? Because you've used them successfully?

I can find many complaints about total seal rings. Including a person here who tried them on his rebuilt Integra without success.
