You need to ask yourself this question; how fast do you wanna spend?

If you are gonna turbo then really look into the amount of money and time it may take you; find a good place to re-sleeve(dont be afraid to look hard as this is important). All in all just really think and plan about your build man before you start.

Come on dude, there are these things called FAQ's. You didn't stop to consider the fact that you probably weren't the first one to ask this kind of question. Btw... if you wanna go fast reliably, just buy a V8.

Forced Induction Performance Library (README)
Who's motor went toast with FI and why

Those address both your question and concerns. Took me about 2 seconds, and I didn't even have to use that damn search button.

my 98 has been running a greddy kit on a stock block for about 50k and no probs. being a turbo guy, i'm biased towards turbos so... my answer is turbo. besides you can always upgrade a turbo to suit whatever goals.

Either way, I would strongly suggest you build the motor. Like you said, high compression is no good for FI, even on low boost, you will dramatically shorten the life of your motor. First you MUST decide how much power you want. From there you can decide Turbo or SC, next make up a parts list, and the order of installation. I would have gone with an SC, but there is no 4th gen application.
