Turbo setups for different people

Hi guys,

Its my observation that there are basically 3 types of ppl who want to boost their ludes.

Those of us with very deep pockets who can affort to fully build a motor, run 20psi just for the thrill of it, and if it blows we say "shucks"....and we get another and start over. We must have max power!! I call this group Extreme!

Those of us who have a bit more sense, with not very deep pockets who want to get the most bang for every dollar put into a turbo project. Ususally we can't afford a full rebuild right now, but must have relaible boost cuase our cars are daily driven. I call this group Sensible!

finally, those of us (like me) who are in school, and want to piece a turbo together for as little $$$ as possible on a stock bottom, with no fancy fuel management computers, just the basics to get going. I call this group Budget!

What quite a few of us in all these groups have in common is that we are just note sure what is best for our purposes. I mean we will seach the board, but the the infomation is do dispersed, it can become confusing and overwhelming, cause everybody got their own preference.

I was wondering if someone could post 3 custom turbo setups for Extreme, Sensible, and Budget with a total average price if possible.

This could be used as a reference and answer many basic questions like "what setup is best for...."

Just a suggestion. Sorry for the looong post. Oh, I hope I didn;t cause any trouble with my little groups? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hmmm...I don't know if it's a good thing but I guess I'd fall into the "extreme" category.

GE sleeves
Wiseco 9:1 88mm pistons
Pauter rods
Prodrive oil pump
CM flywheel/CM stage IV clutch
Cometic h/g
hondata i/m gasket
720cc RC's fed by a walbro gss342 through SS an-6 into an AEM rail/reg
Fmax setup w/ too-small t3/t04b
Tial HP hybrid wastegate
HKS SS BOV
AEM EMS

Currently going back together with these new additions:
P&P job on the head w/ the requisite valves/springs/retainers
h23 tranny w/ quaife
3" d/p and custom exhaust w/ dynomax bullet resonators & 80mm Apex N1
Hopefully a Skunk IM if it's out prior to dropping the motor in.

We'll see how much power can get eeked out of the 'b' before upgrading...trying to see if Geoff comes out with a manifold that'll let me keep my fluidyne and hopefully a/c...

Cool! Thanx for the info so far. U extreme guys are really going for it! Good stuff! Still waiting to see a good budget setup.

I think soneone on this board has a turbo prelude running more than 300whp. I would be great to see a detailed listing of that setup here.

Heh

It is my opinion that everyone who tries for the "Budget" category will eventually be forced into the "Sensible" category. The bad news is that they will pay to enter both categories!

this is factual. I started off budget racer and was forced into the sensible category. Which means buying all new parts because you bought the fscking kit instead of piecing it together and my setup is minimal. Its more or less a drag kit + pNp + built motor + vafc + turbo timer + boost guage.
