Turbo inspection-Expirenced input please

Got a slightly used turbo here with 1000 miles on it .However, this is what I noticed. If i blocked the oil return port and blew into oil supply port it does not hold the pressure I can hear it escaping from the exhaust wheel. Is this normal, or does it have a blown seal. Also there is no sideward movement of the wheels or excessive movement/play. I actually helped remove it from the car it was on and there was no smoking or oil in the intake or exhaust. coluld it be that turbo seals actually engage with the 30+ psi from the oil supply line and blowing into it was just not enough pressure .Need to make a decision if to install it or not.

To be honest, I've never done that, putting my mouth on the turbo, hehehe. I am not that kind of a guy, hehehe. If it leaks out with just .2 psi by force of breath, it won't get any better with 30-80psi from your car's oil source. I tried it and I can't blow anything with the return hole plugged, I guess I am that type of guy.

What is your budget? Sometimes, if you're lucky, turbos can be had for @ $100 off of junk cars. If you want decent, go to majestic.com and ask about new or rebuilds. A brand new t3/t4 can be had for $600 any trim/housings (in most cases). You'd be happier with a new turbo, changing them out can be a hassel, especially with the mani on there........
