to those of you who did a custom exhaust

How many L bends or U bends did you guys buy to fab up your exhaust? Since nobody makes a 3" I'll have to get one welded up out of prebent mandrel pipes. Any input is appreciated. TIA.

yeah a lot of people say the Prelude ones don't fit that well, so I'd rather buy the bends myself and weld them together.

A good exhaust shop can just do everything for you thats what i did specially since i didnt have a flew pipe comming off the downpipe quicker and easier and not that expensive!!!

You need two 90 degree bends for the B-pipe (easy part), and probably two 45 degree pieces to fab up the axle-back section (trickier part). Just jack up your car and take a look at it.

Yeah, I wanted to order the mandrel bends though before I took it to the exhaust shop. And I would've looked myself but its -30C here and way too cold to even go outside let alone get underneath my car.

Thanks for the help Daemione!

hey Daemione, I was doing a search and your thread about resonators came up. Did you end up finding out whether the 26" long resonator fit? I want to put in as long a resonator as possible.

I'm about 95% sure the big 22/28x4" resonator will fit (magnaflow p/n 10436). The body of the stock one is about 22" long, and there's at least another foot of piping around it before you hit the cat or first bend. One of the larger 6" round ones might fit as well, but I think it'll hang down lower than I'd like.

I haven't completely abandoned that project actually, tentatively hoping to get it together in time for the NPM, but funds are pretty tight. The plan right now is to go ahead & get a Moroso spiral-flow resonator, and see whether it'll squeeze in just before the axle-back section.

hmmm well it looks like the only 3" app they have is the 6" round one.... I don't want to scrape it all the time though...
how much further down does it hang vs the 4" one? Do you know?

Quick question, since we're on the subject:

I am going to have to get a new exhaust for my current project, and I am looking at getting KTeller8's exhaust for my prelude. I already have a muffler to use, does his piping get rid of the factory resonator?

I don't know for sure, but I would guess the 6" round would end up about an inch lower than the stock one. And it'd be in an unfortunate spot - right in the center of the wheelbase, so it might be more likely to get hung up on stuff.

Someone on that thread of mine actually bought the 6" version & test fitted it, I believe - you could try contacting him for more details.

why a 3" pipe for turbo i thought 2.5" is enought don't need that big, even at boosting like 20psi you won't be needing 3" right?

A buddy of mine with a SR20 told me he found a Dynomax 3" resonator with 4" diameter. I think I'll see if that's going to work.

If I remember the 22" resonator that I got with my kteller8 setup was only ~4" in diameter...if it wasn't so damned cold in the garage I'd go measure it for you.

As an aside to the original poster...I'm really happy with my setup from kteller8. Mine's the 3" SS that I ordered with a 22" resonator. It's setup cat-less and bolts right to my 3" d/p...the only fitment issue was the rear pipe which was slightly off. _But_, IMHO the rear pipe couldn't be perfect due to the differences in mufflers that may be used. Mine only needed a slight tweak to use the 3" N1 muffler and have it correctly positioned. I might have been able to beat the price by using mandrel bends but it'd have been more frustration trying to get everything right...took me an hour with my welder and I had a 3" SS exhaust for cheaper than my old Tanabe setup.

Generally, I've heard around 300whp, a full 3" exhaust setup is needed. The only thing is, most Preludes will have a 2.5" downpipe unless you remove the a/c. I don't quite know how the flow will be affected (if at all) with a 3" exhuast setup when the limiting factor is the downpipe.
