Standalone Engine Management

I am looking to buy a standalone ECU. I have a 2001 prelude with Jackson Racing supercharger, intake, header, exhaust. I want to get the most power out of all of my upgrades. I hear Hondata is the way to go. Would buying a used S200 or S300 be ok? Or would it have to be reburned for my applicaton? Any help is appreciated.

Hondata is good, although I don't support them because of their incident involving Dave Blundell. Other than that, their software is stellar.

You could also go with AEM. They have a good standalone system also.

i would go w/ the hondata s300. i have it and it is extremely user friendly. obviously get your car tuned w/ it... but you can adjust things via laptop. for example launch and rev limiters. you dont have to take the ecu in and out of the car ... because it all plugs in through usb. the s200b... i used to have... and it was good back in the day. for the money and quality get the s300.

Is the S200 ECU burned in? Meaning not able to be upgraded once it is set?

okay... the s200 is a blue box that gets wires into i think four terminals inside of the ecu. inside the ecu you have a rom... this rom gets popped out and the maps get burned to it then reinstalled inside the computer. so you would need a burner and a dedicated laptop for the hondata. w/ the s300 you just plug into the usb wire that goes directly to your ecu ...which would have the hondata installed inside of the ecu housing.

it can be repeatedly burned but after awhile it will more then likely starting breaking pins on the rom.

I plan on doing more upgrades in the future like bigger injectors, different exhaust, and bigger pulley. So either one work as far as being able to be upgraded, its just more convienient to use the s300 right?

yes... both will handle bigger exhaust....injectors, and whatever you throw at them... but the s300 will let you change alot more things.... rev limiter and launch limiter.... cel as shift light...etc. so its way more user friendly... i would just get the upgrade instead of buying the old version. i started w/ the s200 and it was a pain... i had to take it somewhere to have ANYTHING ADJUSTED.... w/ the s300 i could change anything i wanted... view the maps... datalog and see how my car was running. I am in control of it.

Thanks everybody for the input. I think I will go with the s300. Any other input will still be appreciated.

I was going to add that when I bought my S300 from Xenocron, the installation CD that came with it already had tons of pre-done maps for basically every Honda engine and out of all of those, they even had maps for those engines with specific mods.

When Honda Bob was tuning my car, he searched under the H22 fuel and timing maps and they had a section for N/A mods, Turbo or Supercharger. And when he selected the H22 with supercharger, it even broke it down even further with two different size injectors, 440cc or 550cc. These maps should probably strictly be used for a base map and not to just program and drive around, but it will get you to that point safely at least.
