Sigh...toasted ringlands. UPDATE: not toasted

... even before the turbo was in apparantly.

Upon startup there was a nice odor coming from the valve cover breather. After warm up , faint white smoke, that appears steam like, constantly sputters out of the breather, but not the pcv port. Taking the oil cap off, more white smoke and oil droplets sputtering out. No smoke out of the exhaust, just from the head.

Compression is steady at 210 across all cylinders, but there's excessive blow by. I figure they cracked years ago when i was still using nitrous. I just never noticed since i never had any part of the crankcase venting to atmosphere before. Seems like it just keeps getting worse and just today on the way to work it would die at idle. Drove the whole way in vacuum too. Hopefully i can make it home

Any recommendations on a reputable builder in the bay area? I would prefer something local with a quick turnaround. Possibly if the cylinder walls aren't scratched beyond repair, i'll re-hone and try the mahle pistons. If there's nothing local, i'll probably send it out to earl at laskey racing and resleeve the bastard.

Wow, already? It seemed to be running ok with your partial tune the other day. Hopefully the walls aren't too scoured, but I'd at least try the sleeve liners if you do need to open the bottom end so you can run any kind of pistons that you want along with a bit of additional strength. You might want to consider (depending upon the shop) getting the cylinders posted as well to help keep everything in the right spot.

As for shops in the area I've only had experience with Blacktrax and Motorsport Techniques (Hayward). Both are very good shops though some others in the area that people have had relatively good experience with are Red Zone and Dynospot Racing as well.

Well, guess the ringlands are fine. Leakdown results were on point and so was compression. I had an insufficient vacuum source causing all that crankcase pressure to sit there.

That's good to hear that no damage has been done. I'm not sure if you did, but I'd throw a catch can into the PCV valve side to the intake along with hooking up the other side of the PCV system to the intake to create sufficient vacuum to run the PCV system properly.
