Retarding timing

Does anyone know for sure if I can wire in only the boost retard feature of the "EMS" and run the hack with it? I'm trying to stop using the J&S for the retard function, and see if the JR retard will work better. Would I still need to keep the -35 to -40 correction on my VAFC? Can someone help me with setting this up?

Which wires on the "Black box" would I need to hook up, and which ones do I leave dangling?

Dave where the hell are ya?

It seems from the JR instructions that you would hook everything up except the MAP wire. I'm not certain it will work.

How about I hook up the map input to make it "happy" and don't hook up the output? I'm guessing I still have to pull -35 to -40 out across the board?

I wouldn't hook the MAP sensor to the JR unit at all. How much you need to pull from fuel on the vafc isn't going to change.

I would think you would also not want/need to hook up the IAT wire.

You might want to talk to JR and ask them if you can use the JR "ems" as you are suggesting. If anyone would know, they would.

I remembered I had a conversation with a guy on h-t a while back, just double checked the old thread. He said he was using the JR "ems" only for the BTC. He said that all he had to wire up was the crank position sensor (CKPP, C2 wire, blue) and the ignition wire (A20), and nothing else (I'm sure you'll need to hook up the power wire). Of course, the unit will still need a vacuum line so it knows when there is boost. According to him, it worked fine.

You may be having a problem with your J&S, but the real question is whether or not that has anything to do with the trouble you are having with the afc hack.
