Rebuild h22 or h23?

Ok so I'm posting this with having knowledge of both motors. I just wanted some input from you guys seeing as some of you have been around longer than I. Also to add I'm posting this here because whichever motor i decide to go with I will be rebuilding from ground up. I will spare no expense because I love my car and will be doing everything right the first time. So here it is. I'll be getting rid of my h22a4 this weekend and on the prowl for a new motor. Mind you it is an SH, I don't need to hear any crap cuz I know its not the best car to go F/I but its what I wanna do.I've spent countless hrs researching the h22 and h23. I was originally set on the h22a1, but the issue is VTEC. I would much rather just go with the h23 non-VTEC to make things more simple on tuning. I will be going OBD-1 seeing as Anchorage, AK is getting rid of emissions soon. Yes if I move to a place where there is emission testing, I will worry about it then. So I want to go w/ the h23 but I'm reading that parts are not as abundent as the h22. Also it has less HP stock, but seeing as this motor will be built ground up w/ boost I don't think that will be an issue. my goal will be 300Whp+ or close to that. Any input on you guys would be great. Thanks.

doesnt matter that block, you can still put h22a pistons and rods in an h23.

Does that apply to most other parts too, such as parts for the head and external pts like the header I/M? Everything on this car will be aftermarket and built around the aspect of the motor being Boosted.

h22 and h23 heads are different (obviously aka VTEC vs non-VTEC), the block parts are interchangable

Isn't the crank different? Obviously the bore is the same if you can interchange pistons, so the stroke cannot also be the same if the two engines have different displacements.

Cool well I'm think I'm gonna go w/ the h23 non-VTEC. I'm also going with an f22b tranny for the slightly longer gear ratios. Only thing is I live in alaska and getting a motor shipped is rediculous, everywhere I look shipping is more than the motor...it sucks. Thanks for your input guys and if anyone has more input feel free.

I'm about to order some JE forged pistons and Eagle H-beam rods from Real Street Performance and they're telling me the Eagle H-beam rods won't work for my H23a1 and that they would have to use Pauter H23 rods which are $1250...and even then my C/R would be higher than the 9:1, thanks for any help I plan on ordering my pistons, rods, and bearings as soon as I find out for sure that they will work for my engine.

Edit: I looked on JE's website again and found forged pistons for an h23a1, but the bore size is 87.5 not 87. You guys are telling me ( which I want to believe you) that the h22 and h23 block parts are interchangeable, why is it these companies are listing different sizes. Also if you look on wikipedia for the h22 and h23 that they match up for rod and pistons sizes, but wiki doesn't always have their facts straight. Any help would be really appreciated. I'm about to pull the engine apart today and start measuring the stock internals myself...unfortunately that means i have to go buy more tools.

The same reason the block is stamped with A's and B's... variances. Then you also have the Over Sized stock pistons should the block need honed out, etc.

I ran the Over Sized (25mm IIRC) type-s pistons in my 97 H22

Companies normally offer standard bore, .5, .10 and sometimes .20 or more over. It depends on how abused your cylinders look and if they need to be honed to smooth them out.
