Question about daily driving and high boost...

i am just curious. what difference does it make how high your boost is set for daily driving?? i see people post a lot about keep it between 6-8 psi, but why not 10-12?? what difference does it make since you are rarely boosting if you are driving to work. Does it spool up faster at a higher boost?? someone let me know when you have minute.
rock!!!

Less wear on engine parts. Its true how you say your mostly in vacume, but sometimes I still boost when I accelerate. Like when I'm cruising on the freeway, I stay in 5th and when i accerate I go full boost without knowing it. Maybe I got a small turbo and it spools real quick...

What turbo are you running? What rpm do you start to spool and what rpm are you at full boost? I have a t3/t4e .48a/r turbine 60trim (not installed yet) I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect.

I got a drag kit, the turbo is a t3/t4 I can't quite remember the specs. Boost starts building almost instant if I'm past 2.5k rpms and full boost a second later. If I'm in 5th and downshift to any gears and go wot, I hit full boost almost instantly

I was boosting 12 psi all the time on a sc for about 2 months, with a tuned hondata. But maybe I just wore out the engine so when it does go I can blame it on the 12 psi hehe. My motor seems perfect and I boost 7-8psi all day.

thanks everyone for the response, but i don't think anyone really answered the question. i realize that 12lbs of boost will be harder on the motor, but if i am just driving around town (85% of the time) i rarely boost. if i do boost, i notice that my boost gauge hits about .3 BAR before it starts to back off, eventhough it is set for .5 BAR (7.25psi) unless i am really on it, i rarely get up to .5 BAR. does the turbo spool slower or faster on a higher setting or does it even matter? again, i probably won't go higher than 7-9psi, but i am just curious as to why it matters for daily driving. thanks.

it takes physically longer to create more boost, but its not 'effected' like your wording it. More boost doesnt create more boost lag down low, it just takes longer to achieve the higher setting. A lot of people keep there boost down as they dont want to excessively wear and tear there internals, mainly stock. I plan to beat the **** out of my built bottom end :P

it would obviously take longer to get to 12 rather than 8, but are you suggesting that it will take longer to get to 8 if i set the boost to 12 rather than 8?
