planning for JRSC

Hello PO community

I've spent a great deal researching about how to properly build a F/I set up and I've finally nailed it down to goin with a JRSC due to the fact thats its the only legal way to boost in california. I just want a fun car to drive around corners and sometimes straightaways. Thats it
Regardless of how much I try and research, I lack experience so therefore there is a lot of room for error. Hopefully the experienced can help fill in the holes as I rant on about my plans for when I go about and build up my engine.

Car: 1998 SH Prelude 113000 miles
Current mods: Greddy Evo 2 Exhaust
Tein Superstreet Coilovers
Rear Tanabe Tower bar
and....thats it!

Priority Goals

1. Durability
2. Emissions
3. HP/Torque gains

I plan to just run the 6psi when installing the JRSC for awhile and if I get bored of it later, I can just swap out for a higher psi pulley later.
I plan to build the bottom end by resleeving the block, having the crank balanced and micropolished, using 9:1 forged pistons and a new set of rods, rings and bearings. Sounds like goin a bit far for just 6psi, but as my goals listed above, durability is my main priority. I plan to keep the stock cams and do retainers and just springs for the head.
I've read quite a few threads on PO about the FMU and VPAC and how ****ty it is. I've tried to find a piggyback or even standalone units out there that would be OBD2 compatible AND pass emissions. I've narrowed it down somewhat to just greddy's emanage ultimate. (Although this needs more researching because I haven't found enough data to support that this will cause any issues during california emissions)
Any feedback on this planning is greatly appreciated.

if you go with the 9:1 pistons you will barely notice the 6psi of boost from the SC. I suggest you go with stock compression. also you dont need to do the balance or polish to the crank.

^ This dude is a JRSC guru, listen to his every word.

You said you narrowed down your standalone to only greddy emanage ultimate but I know the AEM Series 2 EMS is a pretty well known and can act as a second option depending on what your tuner is comfortable with.

Ok. lll stick with a 10:1 compression ratio piston. However though, I've found a few post about how AEM EMS will allow failure of emissions. Something about when the smog guys plug in their machine to pull codes from the OBD2, it'll cause no reading or not enough readings to raise a red flag. Only reason why Im looking at the emanage. Wish their was a sticky out there just for emissions stuff.

the emissions part of it does suck, I used the greddy emanage and the emanage ultimate. both worked out pretty good, the ultimate is a lot more tuner friendly.

the sc can be put on the car in about 8 hours... and with each time you put it on it gets easier and easier, I took mine off the last time in about 1.5 hours.

So if you wanted to you could just get the emissions testing done then put the sc on with a stand alone, then in a year when its time for emissions switch back to stock.

Geramy, I don't know if Colorado has any emissions, but did you (or anyone else you know) use greddy emanage ultimate and take it in to do an emissions test and have it pass the sniffer? Im not worried about visual test because JRSC is CARB legal. I figured I could just call greddy, but i've found that sometimes the person on the other line isn't always as "knowledgeable" as they would seem. For me, knowing that someones experienced it before, definately beats just word of mouth alone. If this system cannot pass by any means, then I will start looking for alternatives.

Oh, a little off topic, but I've seen your name mentioned on preludepower.com in the supercharger sticky about you porting out your supercharger. Interesting idea btw.

Colorado HAD emissions, my car passed with the emanage on it, and it wasnt even tuned to my car, had a previous tune on it from someone else. The county I lived in then did away with the emissions so I didnt try it with the emanage ultimate.

The port work was done by Endyn, they port the intake runners, and then fill in the little ports on the bottom of the SC itself. Makes it more efficient, it is also just a little bit louder.

my SC is for sale btw
