Out of commission

Pulled into the driveway last night. Heard some weird screeching/squeeling noises...coming from the turbo. Pulled it this morning. Gonna attempt a rebuild on my own. Cant afford a professional rebuild anytime soon. I'll keep you guys updated.

Wish me luck

Do you have any clues on what it might be? It only started happening when you pulled into the driveway?

Where did all those shavings come from??? I haven't pulled apart a turbo yet to get a good grasp on where the friction occurs.

They came from between the two things in the bottom pic. Im not smart about turbos. Im just too poor to have it sent off and professionally rebuilt. Ordering rebuild kit today and a couple misc parts. I think the turbo was probably screwed up when i got it (used). BTW - burnt on oil is hard as steel

UPDATE:

I rebuilt the turbo, re-installed it. Started the car up. SMOKE EVERYWHERE. thats okay though, ithink it was just "Slick 50" lubricant burning off the manifold. phew.

Just as I was about to take it for a test drive. SQEEEEEAAAAAK. F*** me! It was the distributor bearing. Ordered a new one today. At least it was a learning experience and my turbo is clean on the inside.

my luck just got worse. Looking through my rebuild kit, i think i forgot a "piston ring" (thats what they're called), so i decided to pull the turbo, take it apart again, replace the piston, then send it off to be professionally balanced

Just when i thought things couldnt get any worse...

I decided while my car wasnt going anywhere, id treat it to new fluids (oil, coolant, brake bleed) just to show that there were no hard feelings about all the crap thats been breaking on it.

Drained the coolant, removed the clamp from the top radiator hose to the radiator. gave the hose a tug...and the top of the radiator broke off!!! Like 4" of it. fck me!

So now, ive got:
1. Turbo with missing piece that also needs balancing
2. dead distributor
3. dead radiator

and all of this happend while the car was in its parking space. LOL. gotta have a sense of humor about these things. hope your week has been better.

I dont have a good accurate time yet. Ive only run it once, and it was running so rich that it barely ran. I got a 15.7. If it were running correctly, it would have run a 15.3 at least

Im only runnin 5 psi right now. I'll bump it up to 8 when i get my SAFC (looks like its gonna be a while)

Id like to get into the mid 14's with this motor. Ive got an h23 as a backup motor. Shouldnt that be the other way around? hehe
