Opinion on ignition

Ok, I posted a problem I was having with my car where it would be driving down the road and all of a sudden it would just die. The ACGS fuse was replaced and the car ran again for about 20 miles, then did the same thing. Now it will not start at all but the fuse didn't blow.

They are thinking that it has something to do with the ignition and this is the question I have. I have the MSD SCI ignition system with the blaster coil and some have said that there are known issues with the Preludes. Also, the person that originally installed it, had to call MSD for the wiring information so I am not sure if the current shop did it correctly.

I am considering going back to the stock ignition. What are your thoughts?

kthx

Let me ask you this first: did they troubleshoot the PGM-FI main relay as I had suggested? And has the ecu been ruled out? As we had discussed on AIM, being that it was the ACGS fuse that was blowing, which is one of the fuses that protects the PGM-FI system, it seems more likely that the car now will not start because something in the PGM-FI system was damaged.

Of course, if they want to troubleshoot the MSD SCI, then just have them remove it. It certainly won't hurt anything to temporarily go back to the stock ignition. However, if they haven't checked out the PGM-FI system, and they haven't tried a different ecu to compare, I still think the root of your problem lies somewhere there.

MSD is complete junk. Everyone I know who ran (note the past tense) a Digital-6 or an SCI has had them fry, and sometimes take out important other components with it. I would never reccomend anyone use them.

I would choose Crane, because they are cheaper and the construction quality is better.

If you want a real ignition ( ), get the AEM CDI box. It's better if you use the AEM EMS because you can convert to direct-fire and ditch the distributor, but at a minimum it's still a great ignitor replacement.

^^ thanks for the info!

Dave, I think once again that the shop may be a problem here. I still have no idea what they tested and didn't test and they don't seem to want to troubleshoot it. Unfortunately, this shop doesn't deal with many Hondas so they don't have parts laying around to try. I guess I'll just have to buy everything until I find what's broken.

it's grounded.

I have no idea Dave It just seems weird that all was well with the car then they replaced the radiator and fixed a couple of hoses and the next day it craps out.

Well, it's gotta be the PGM-FI main relay, the ecu, or MSD SCI. Have you been able to get them to go through the main relay troubleshooting I sent you? Man, I hope you aren't having to pay these people by the day
