open wastegate vs. dump tubed wastegate

okay ... on my revhard/custom manifold i got an open tial 38mm wastegate. it is really loud... it sounds pretty sick but it kinda takes the sick whistle of the turbo... should i put a dump tube to the wastegate or just keep it open ...

what are some setups you guys have... looking for comparisons on just leaving it or make it quiet. pics if you got em??

In my revhard turbo setup I have the open wastegate and I love the sound. I also would show some pics but I cant figure out how to put them on here.

tial open wastegate sounds awesome. ITs way, way better than the spool of the turbo. leave it open. IT wont always open if you dont floor it so you can still hear the sound if you misss it.

Tial open wastegate sounds almost just like the blowoff valve or the turbo spooling, it just sounds sick.

he also said that u can still loose HP even if u have the dump tube facing straight down by the ground. its best to have it facing the rear of the car and under the oil pan
this is off of b20vtec.com .... a nyc / long island based site. 90whp??? from dumptube placement??

Interesting, I guess it also depends on where your intake is located in relation to the wastegate as well. Sucking up hot, CO2 rich air can definitely effect power.

In my turbo days I had short dump tubes with two different set ups. You can still hear it dumping but it makes your block filthy after a while. If I had stuck with turbo I would've extended the dump tube to release just below the oil pan for several reasons. So that's what I would suggest. Who cares about the "sound" that it makes if it's going to effect your performance. You didn't put $ into boosting your car for the sound, you did it for the horses.

Jeff evans really knows his stuff he's proven to make outstanding numbers with his tunes...about the dumptube being routed under the oilpan... he is actually gonna do that on my setup i'll have to dyno after i do it to see if this extra whp is true

well thats the thing... i understand open your dumping exhaust straight out... def aint good.. but if you have an intake extended to where i there is no exhaust being released you should be okay... but 90hp .... i know jeff evans is the man but i doubt he would say something like that 90 hp .... maybe if you wastegate dumptube is right over your turbo ....
but i think next week im gonna end up doing a sleek lil dumptube to go under the pan and also upgrade all ic piping to copper... going on a weight lose program!
