new sleeves??

Ok, I want to get new sleeves for my 5th gen engine, and some dude was telling me that u have to send your block away to have it done, I mean cant u just buy the new sleeves, and have someone with a honing machine locally do it for u. I really need to know where I can get new sleeves and a rough price, and how much boost from a turbo my engine will be able to handle with new sleeves, new lower compression forged pistons and rods..I want as much as I can get.. let me know thanks.........

Several vendors...there's also a groupbuy on Golden Eagles...

There are a couple different types you can get...Darton, Golden Eagle, etc. I just broke down and started to pull my motor the rest of the way to get Golden Eagles installed. I bought JE 9:1 pistons and Pauter rods and was planning to try it with the stock sleeves as I had been unable to find solid info on the incompatibility with FRM sleeves....well to make a long story short I fell for the "go big or go home" mentality and decided to go for broke. If you go to: Ben Lesnak's webpage he's got details about the groupbuy and http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com is the url for the company.

And where can u get new sleeves is what I was asking..And how are the new sleeves put in.. the block has to be honed out right? and then they have to be knocked in ... then u have to get the new sleeves honed too right, to fit the new JE pistons or whatever u get right..? Im not sure, and I really need to know.. thanks.. Mike

yeah...you can buy them.

Yes, you can purchase them and have them installed...you'll have to do a search to find the various vendors. I believe a couple advertise in the back of turbo magazine. I don't know where you're located but around me there didn't seem to be any shops that seemed competant at resleeving...a couple were willing to try but at the same or (usually) higher prices that I could get sending it off somewhere experienced (I don't mind being a guinea pig but give me a break if I am!) That's why I decided to send my block to Golden Eagle...
