Might be getting a new motor

Hey, my car was just in a flood, and insurance said that they will cover all damages. I did a compression test and my numbers dropped from 180,180,180,180 to 140,150, 160,170, so I guess the valves or rings are messed up. Plus I have a idle control system malfunction.
Well, I am not sure what will get replaced, but I am wondering how aftermarket pistons, rods, and what not will compare to replacing stock engine parts. Would it be about the same price to do an engine build up for turbo instead of replacing it with honda parts?
I don't want to get screwed over by the insurance company. If it was up to me, I would want the car totalled, since I don't like the idea of driving a car that's been sitting in water. How can I make sure that insurance takes care of me and does not take the cheap way out.

Re: Might be getting a new motor

get everything replaced with stock components. you don't want to screw around with building up a motor if you don't absolutely need to, and when you consider labor, it will cost more than a stock replacement.

I think he meant that you shouldn't build it unless you have to. Unless your running high compression forged pistons then you won't need to.

Re: Re: Re: Might be getting a new motor

no, i just said that you shouldn't build the motor unless you have a reason to; some good reasons would be a) a lot of boost, b) to acheieve a really high mechanical compression ratio, or c) to acheive a really high safe redline. doing an n/a buildup to accomplish b&c is going to be different from a turbo or sc buildup, so it's not such a great idea to just "build the motor" because it's broken, unless you have a specific setup and GOAL in mind.

ok, i see what you mean. i took your comment as "its not a good idea to build motors, in general".
