I figure I havent been posting lately so I'd make up for it with 2 threads in a row
My car sounds terrible in boost.... On top of the rattling header and the whining blower noise, there is also a hissing/gurgling/whistling noise, which i'm guessing is the bypass valve, does anyone else have this by any chance? Its most noticible when boosting at low RPMs, and I still read 7-8psi on the boost gauge.
Another thing about boosting at low RPMs........ it seems pretty stressful on the motor to me, but is it? I usually dont WOT until 3k, I also find that boosting at ~2k or less is really sluggish and uninspiring, and like i said above, very noisy.
I'm thinking there may be a problem with my install, I'd like to know if you guys are able to lose traction from a roll in 1st. Like roll at 1500rpm, then floor it, do you get wheelspin? Of course this is dependant on road surface/tires, but are you able to? Seems as though I have problems spinning the wheels in 1st.... are you able to spin the wheels in second just by WOT w/o the clutch involved?
Ive yet to feel wheelspin in 1st! Ive been dying to feel the power but unless i dump the cluth i dont have wheelspin either, i thought it was only me. I wonder if its cause my cars an SH?
well.... i just found out i can spin the hell out of the tires on wet road... lol... so could anyone else... but i have yet to hear a chirp or anything on dry road
The reason why i'm asking is because i'm feeling a lack of power as well from the JRSC... maybe i'm just used to it already? i really need to sit in a stock SH....
I have all the JR equipment, EMS, FMU, so theres not much tuning i CAN do with that equipment, i also have VAFC, but I'm a little bit reluctant to tune with that. I just keep the BTC at 5 clicks and check my plugs regularly for detonation.
I got the excedy organic clutch, just close to OEM spec, i didnt feel the need to get anything heavy duty. However i am getting a LOT of clutch chatter on cold morning, and by a lot, i mean A LOT. Maybe i'm just unfamiliar with clutch chatter, but there isnt much of a "friction zone" until the tranny warms up, then its a little bit more forgiving. When cold the car shakes a fair amount when engaging the clutch, I dont like it at all, and i figure RPM cant do much about it (unless there was a problem with the install). Having the motor mounts doesnt help with the shaking much at all.
Hrmmm, I don't know about other people, but I have no hissing/gurgling/whistling noise at all. Perhaps the blower isn't tightened down well enough to the manifold, or one of the blower gaskets is bad.
I also have a strange noise when I floor at very low RPM. From all the trials I did over the last 4 months, I believe that some of the strange noise is detonations (the J&S doesn't read it even w/ a high sensibility adjustment). Actually I can ear it very well. I believe that because of the relatively low piston speed at low engine RPM, there is not a lot of room to adjust the timing on a 10:1 c/r boosted engine between detonations and making power (at very low RPM). For sure, I can confirm that the amount of boost retard needed on the low cam is a lot higher than on the VTEC cam (5000RPM and higher).
I have quaife and Azenis Sport tires resulting in very good traction (good 60 ft) and I have wheel spin when I floor at low RPM. I have wheel spins all the way up to cut off on first gear. But remember that 4th gen first gear is a liltte shorter. On my 1/4 mile runs, I have huge wheel spins after shifting to 2nd gear agressively. Also on 2nd gear, when being in the VTEC zone, I have light wheel spins when I quickly floor it. I have 240 whp on 94 gas btw
Lennlen, I have the same clutch, inserts and same experience. But I still like it a lot since it is so streetable and it only last a few minutes at cold start up. Even if it is a stage 1 equivalent, I have done a few terrible 1-2-5 mishifts and the clutch disk seems to last and be very durable.

thanks for the feedback BB1SRV, I was a bit unsure if the clutch could hold the torque/boost, but I guess if it works well for you then i should be in the clear.
I guess I will have to check again with the wheel spin thing, I havent really tried recently just cause I know it is hard on the car, and I had a bit of a problem with the clearance with the ABS lines (which i have recently fixed)
The sound i'm hearing is more of a constant hissing noise, I think it may be a loose bolt in the JRSC baseplate as shark said..... oh man, taking out the blower is going to be a biatch.... funny how I still get 7 psi with a leak.....
At least its not just me thats not feeling any wheelspin. Im curious to figure out why our cars dont seem to pull like they should. I guess its the fact of just being able to say i have wheelspin that makes me want it that much more!!
yea, i know what you mean, wheelspin depends on what road surface tires, temperatures etc, but i'd like to know that i can do it... maybe i should throw on my stock RE92's and rip around in them... make me feel better about my JRSC... lol
I'll try to record a clip when flooring it at 2000RPM. It's pulling like a mutha... big time.
Btw i just edited my timing maps. I'm now running the P13 timing maps w/ 0.7 and 0.5 boost retard equivalent values for the low and high cams respectively. The engine is running sooo smooth. And the J&S sensitivity is now set at 11 o'clock and no knocking at all. Finnally.... Hondata ROMeditor is just TOO expensive though.
