JRSC Valve Cover Removal Mod

What's up all? Like many others, I have been plagued in the past when trying to find an easy way to remove the valve cover on a JRSC'd Lude. Well, no more! I have discovered an easy way to do it that eliminates the need to even touch any Jackson parts to get it removed, (well, sort of). Here is the process:

1. The bad news is that this mod requires that you remove the valve cover the old fashioned way the first time. To do this, most people either remove the jackshaft, or just loosen it enough to get clearance.

2. Once the valve cover is removed, you will notice that there are holes in it that the valve cover studs poke through. There are two of these holes on the far right of the valve cover. (End closest to the cam gears, where the channel is and the Alternator wires passes through.) Find these two holes.

3. Using a round metal file, enlarge the diameter of these two holes so that a deep-well 10mm 1/4" drive socket will fit through.

4. Done.

What you have just done is made it possible to remove those two studs with the valve cover still on the head. Once these two studs are removed, the valve cover will lift off. It's still a tight fit, but it does work. I've used this method several times now with no problems.

To reinstall the valve cover, simply stick the two removed studs through the valve cover and attach the endcap without the bushing. Once the valve cover is in place, just screw in the studs, remove the cap, add the bushing, and torque to specs.

Looking at it again, it may make it even easier if you enlarge the other hole on the end of the valve cover on the front side. I'll check this out next time I have it removed.

Let me know if you guys have any questions. Have fun adjusting your valves!

Do these holes stay oiltight after doing this?

Sounds interesting, but I'm not fond on the idea of grinding on my valve cover.

Absolutely no problems with oil leakage. The 10mm socket almost fits anyway without the mod. We're only talking about filing down about a mm.

I don't have any pics right now. Next time I have it off, I'll take some. It is about time to adjust the valves anyway...

Any concerns about stripping/cross-threading those studs after "repeated" removing and reinstalling?

Otherwise, sounds very promising.
