JRSC Intercooler Finished Pics inside, 56k have fun

I added more build pics at the bottom of this post.

Take no mind to the bad welding, that is completely not my fault its the Miller welder I was using (bad balance). I have more pics that I will post tomarrow night.

Please don't take any pictures unless you ask. I will kindly give Hi-res pics to you if you just ask.

Heres a picture of my extra Getto turbo install on my brother's beater Festiva. $125 for everything including a junkyard turbo.

The heat exchanger I used looks just like a front mount so ha!

The install will be next, which won't happen untill I get my harness from PMS.

R&D? I tried to keep the runners as long as possible but other than that it was: Come up with a design and make it fit. Once on the car I will see how it acts and how much it drops temps.

I plan on using a 90% Distilled H20/10% coolant solution. The coolant is only there for corrosion prevention.

one question.... why do you have the semi circles and the big reclangular hole? Why not just one big opening? I know the JR plate has the circlular and square ports, but your is going straight into your intercooler. I must be missing something...

That was a mistake on my part. I should have cut a big hole and be done with it. But I wanted to mimic the holes on the adapter plate which proved to be harder than expected, hince the big rectangle. I had to use a diffrent (bigger) sized core than origonally planned so thats the reason for the half moon holes instead of full circles.

Why not cut it out then? Are you afraid of contaminating your intake with dust and bits of AL frmo cutting it?

Now to the important question....

What's the retail on one of those?
(Don't tell me "more than you can afford pal" -> F&F)

I hope that LHT homes out with a design of their own. I understand why they charge so much, its a lot of work to build one of these. There is a chance that I might not be able/willing to go on building anymore. Well have to see how things pan out.

If the the inlet proves to be a problem I will cut it out. It would have been better if I just cut it all out when I built it. If I buid another it will be cut completely cut out.

Very cool, the only thing im concerned about is will air flow through it fast enough, and the turbulence it will create, I really hope it works out though.

I think the opening to the cooler is about the same size as the JR plate, and the added turbulance in this setup may help the efficency of the cooler? who knows?

Yep 2" gal. pipe. Worked pretty good but let off some noxous gases when welded.

If the hole cause a problem I'll just chop them out. Once the air hits the core the stream gets straightened out anyways so im not too worried.

Whenever I get my ECU to PMS wiring harness from EFI, probably the weekend after that. It should be within a month. Other than that harness im ready to install everything. If for some reason I can't get the harness im ditiching the ATTS and PMS and using a Hondata.

I picked up a Nordskog digital 0-200 deg. F air temp guage to help measure intake temps once I get everything in and running. The autmeter one was way too much ($200-250+).

I found a better (but more expensive) core that I can use for my next intercooler which would simplify the design and basicly be right under the adapter plate. That would cut down on the build complexity and make for better air flow into the engine. I wish I had found this core when I was researching my first intercooler. The core is an actual air to liquid design core (the one above is a air to air adapted to work) so its a little smaller than the core I have pictured here but will be just as efficent. It sucks having to pay the same price as a full size front mont intercooler and only get a core 1/4 the size.
