JRSC idler pulley trouble

Has anyone hear of the idler pulley's on the jrsc kit wearing out? I've put 87,000km on the kit now and havn't had a problem till now. It seams like the pullies are getting VERY loud (sign of failure). Can these be ordered directly from JR, or can the bearings be pressed out? I havn't taken the pulley off the car so I don't know...

funny you mention that, mine just "exploded" yesterday. the tensioner pulley on the supercharger side bearing siezed and melted the pulley, thus, shredding the belt.

i have probably 20k or 25k or so. i did tighten the snot out of the supercharger belt though. won't do that anymore. i still need to find a store i can buy the pulleys from without having to order them. I'm on a snowboarding trip right now and i would love to be able to boost on the way home instead of no boost, no vtec and nothing over 45% throttle.

I totaly killed a pulley over the summer (here), the pulley seized and the belt slipped off... it was somewhat of a mess. Try taking off the idler pulley and clean off the bearings with wd40, and re-lubricate them with either motor oil or marvel's mystery oil.

After one idler pulley gave out, the other ones became noisy, but after a cleaning and lube they've become quiet once again. Every now and then I shoot some wd40 and MMO into the bearings as some sort of insurance.

I also want to know where i can get replacement idlers without getting raped.
In my thread over the summer, BB1SRV mentioned that NAPA (UAP) part no. 38006 might be the matching idler pulley, but I didnt look into it.

edit: Searched NAPA online, couldnt find anything by that part number, then again, their site seems to be partly down... maybe i'll try later

OT, but WD40 sucks as a lubricant. Use Rem Oil (gun and multipurpose lubricant). It doesn't dry out and lasts longer.

well I went out and bought gates P/N 38006. it's not the right one. Now I have to return it. It's a 76mm pulley, not the small 2" pulleys that everyone is blowing out. 76mm might be the size of the blower pulley, but this one does not have any ribs. it's wide enough for a 6 rib belt though.

well I took a pulley off and found the part number 6200 on it. That's a standard number for a single row ball bearing that fits a 10mm shaft, 30mm Bore with a 9mm width.

now I can pick any bearing that meets the specs that JR called out. a lot cheaper than buying the whole pulleys from JR. in fact go can go buy the same NSK bearings that JR used. the load and RPM requirments are listed on the JR web site.

Paluce, so you're gonna be ordering the part from NAPA again (like part 6200?)? And then fitting it with a NSK bearing?

What i'm trying to ask is, will NAPA/auto parts stores understand what a 6200 pulley is? And will that pulley come with the bearing? or will you have to find the bearings seperately?

Thanks, I appreciate the help. Just anticipating when another pulley seizes up....

yep, I'm talking about just the bearing. you can find them on the mcmastercarr or grangier web sites, as well as others.

wow... yours looks a LOT worse than mine did over the summer... I got all pariniod after it happened, kept listening to the pulleys and smelling around the engine bay to make sure I didnt smell any burning plastic...

I've called JR about it before, and keith was like "really, the pulley melted? I've never heard of anything like that before." and proceeded to charge me $30 for each melted pulley.............. thanks JR.... figure you'd replace them for free... i heard they used to be really good with just sending out replacement parts.... i figure with their product line getting older and many of their parts starting to fail, they could no longer afford doing that....

just wanted to update everyone.

I bought some 6200 ABEC-1 bearings from McMaster. They were made by INA. The max dynamic load and max RPM are 1.5 and 1.3 times higher than the bearings that JR uses (NSK).

For the pulleys with the ribs on them it's a simple job. press out the old bearings (WOW they were all SHOT) and press in the new bearings to make the pullies silky smooth.

For the pullies that ride on the back side of the belt, it's a different story. I'm talking about the pulleys that are made out of Nylon. It seams like these are molded over the bearings. The bearing OD is 30mm, but the pulley is 28mm. so they can't be pressed out. I'm going to dremmel away at an extra pulley I have to see if I can press them out without cracking the Nylon. I should be able too... I think...

Are you guys talking about the bearings that go in here? (see picture)

Cause if so, I'm having the same problem. when I listened with a stethoscope the whole round assembly that houses the bearings (see picture) was very hot/noisy. It sounds very dry just listening to it with the human ear. I am considering drilling a small hole and then tapping it so either a grease zerk could be added so it could be greased or maybe a plug so oil could be added.

also how in the world did some of you get the pulley's off?? I tried with a 20 ton drill press jack and they still would press off....
