are intercoolers required? (newbie to turbos)

sorry about the newbie question but lots of so called "FULL kits" for turbo setups dont include intercoolers. im guessing that intercoolers are required for turbo but im only 90% sure. so are they required?

If I went turbo, it would not be without an intercooler. I'd have an intercooler on my JRSC if I could.

its not required but doing it without is almost silly. Its a cheap addition to your turbo parts that creates great horsepower. I dont know why you wouldnt want one, minus attention from the man.

Anytime you compress air, the air will heat up since energy (called entrophy or enthalpy, I forget which one) is increased. The higher the air temperature, the more horsepower you will lose.

The full kits I have seen include the intercooler, i.e. Drag and Fmax. The only one is Greddy but they sell it as an option, probably so they can make more money, or maybe CARB approval didn't allow them to include it with the kit?
