6 weeks or so ago some of you might remember I blew the ring lands on my #4 piston. Well, $100 bucks in parts and 2 weeks later and hours of me working on my car that problem was fixed.
I let it go for 1000 miles and finally started boosting. Now I've got about 1400 miles on it, racing a Mustang GT I shift from 3rd to 4th. But it's not 4th, it's like first, or second. Something other than 4th.
Well the tach points straight down and I quickly stop this madness by slamming in the clutch. Well good thing my clutch is so good since it takes like 3 seconds to engage.
I push the buttons on the VAFC to see what my max RPM was. Well, how does 9913 sound?
Now it idles terriply, maked a small but constant tapping sound, is obviously missing on one cylinder and runs pretty crappy. Dies sometimes, but it's drivable and I'm gonna drive it.
I think it's a bent/burnt valve or something, it's definatly in the valvetrain somewhere since it taps relentlessly. I'm gonna check it out this weekend.
Man you must be the only one who likes screwing up thier engine.. j/p man that sucks must of been 3rd to 2nd. I don't see how you could have got to 1st. I'm guessing you got quite a few bent valves. if its worse then some smashed pistons and broken rods... is this why your selling your turbo? Time for rebuild and a stronger come back I guess. Good luck...

Nah I dont think it's that bad. It still runs fine actually. When it's not idling you cant tell anything is wrong. I'm still driving it around, this happened Saturday night.
Yeah I'm selling the kit and going to do a full build. It'll be a while before I'm boosted again, but I can wait. Give me 6 months.
thats exactly why im putting a new transmission in my car. i did too many of the 3rd to 2nd shifts due to bent forks, so i didnt wanna risk it with a turbo.... i know exactly the feeling... all caught up in the race, pulling on someone, so you shift to 4th to rub it in their face, and WAM!! the car jerks and next thing you know your screeching the tires in second..... and smelling **** inside your car....

if u have a lumpy idle and seems like your running on 3 cylinders, then u have some bent valves, most likely exhuast valves.....you'll eventually throw a misfire code in one of your cylinders....do a compression and leak down test
the compression test will give u a slight indication of bent valves....when i had 5 bent exhuast valves, the compression #'s were 240, 200, 240, 240....the #2 cylinder had 2 bent exhaust valves.....one of the valve guides had a hairline fracture that was noticeable whenever i took off the head...the leak down test is the better test though and since u are still driving the car around, i would get that done ASAP
TurboLudeSH: Please take a pic of your VAFC screen with it showing the 9913rpm readout. I just would love to see that. Sorry to hear about the engine woes.

I thought about it that night but forgot when I got home. It resets every time you turn the car off so it's gone.
Too bad to hear man. Here's my question...if you have that much power, couldn't you always take it easy on the shifts? Mis-****s don't happen often and usually you don't pay attention when you shift, but damn it's expensive when it happens.
Guess it depends on what you're up against and how close you think it will be? Just wondering if the speed of your shifting really makes a big difference on a turbo lude.
no it doesnt matter, but like me, im sure his shift forks are at LEAST a little bent, and the manual transmission causes many problems, as mine has. plus, everyone makes mistakes...

I may have been shifting a little fast, but nothing out of the ordinary. I was racing a Mustang GT and was like 8 cars ahead and was just gonna lay it down a little more.
My 4th-5th gear shift fork is definatly bent before this happened. My 5th gear synchro is totally gone (before this happened).
The wierd thing about what happened is. The shifter goes into 4th gear position, but it's not 4th gear, it's 2nd. Their's not much that can be done about it.
I'm not too concerned, I was planning the rebuild for next month anyway, and I'll still drive it around every once in a while. It actually drove fine today, didn't die at all, just idles rough.
If you need stock valves, let me know I'll sell you mine dirt cheap!
