I have 122k miles on my h22 Im getting a settlement for my accident a few months back and I can buy a turbo kit. how long will my motor last on 5 psi?? and what is a good kit to boost at 5 psi and then after motor blows boost up to 12-15
you should try the FI forum, you will get better answers there. If you motor is in healthy condition it should handle 5 psi fine since that is a low amount, but there aren't any gurantees. Anything over 7-9 psi or so (check the FI forum though, I haven't dealt with an h22 with boost) you will probably want to build the motor up.

maybe you should consider getting a JDM h22a. not the type s. and just get it sleeved and all that turbo stuff they do..
then save a bit

read his post. There's no way to predict how long it will last though. to mayn variables.

It's not the age or mileage of a motor that matters, it's the motor's health. Do a compression check and a leakdown check. If both check out fine there is no reason you couldn't run a low boost (no higher than 7-9 psi) setup. Keep in mind, though, that FI is a risk and it will reduce the life of the motor.
ok thanks lots sharkcohen. a compression and leakdown test it is. you know of a good place to get it checked? by the way what is a leakdown test? and what compression would be in a healthy motor?

actually it would cost more on top of the cost of a turbo kit and building the motor.....why would you want to buy a new motor and sleeve it unless you want to keep your stock motor for the time being so that your car doesnt have any to little down time???

This thread actually helped me a bit, I have 186K and I'm thinking of going turbo. I haven't done a compression check but the motor doesn't eat oil what so ever. I have the 96 Prelude VTEC model. Any thoughts? Am I just crazy for thinking this? I miss boost, and if blow the motor I plan on building for boost anways in 8months.
I have almost 190,000 miles on my h23 and it will be looking for 300hp+ in a couple months. I almost have all the parts ready. Its a stock block and stock head.
haha this thread is hella old. I pretty much daily drive my car now 148k miles and 12psi on an sc-61. funny to see I posted in here so long ago, I did'nt even know what a leakdown was haha
