h23 boosted done tips and tricks.....

finally got all my **** on and ready to go. this is what i did and for any other h23 owners doing the dsm turbo set-up this could be some useful info.

first off dont use the t25 or 14b turbo, they are to small for our engines, go with a t3 or bigger. im running .63 t3. For intercooler piping, buy a front mount intake off ebay for like 75$ for the upper pipe and weld your own flange for bov onto it. and for the rest of the piping just buy a 180 degree mandrel bend and a little bit of straight pipe, at most 30$ from local machine shop. You can also use the same mandrel bends to make your downpipe. for injectors about everybody knows to run with the dsm 450's, and for those of us with h23 we already have the resistor box from the factory The last part which is tuning is the upmost absolute critical part of boosting on your stock block. grab a p28 p30 or p61 from your local salvage yard and have it chipped for uberdata (many guys on h-t can do this for you) uberdata is free and the only part you may have to pay for is getting it chipped and time to tune it (recomend getting it tuned by someone familiar with uberdata on wideband 02) while tuning make sure you do not run lean at all on stock internals, better to run a little rich and be on the safe side. Thats about all, it is that easy to boost your h23. just dont get crazy with the boost, stay about 6-7 psi daily and you should be fine. now lets get more boosted h23's on this board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have any pics? Dyno sheets? Did you use a DSM exhaust manifold or aftermarket for the Prelude? You're the only I've heard say that they've actually done this successfuly. I'm really curious.....let us know!

used aftermarket manifold for dsm off of ebay, it already had the t3 flange versus the dsm style flange, cost about 250, but looks sweet as hell, no dyno sheets, i have a new block im building this winter with je pistons and on the search for some h23 rods. sorry no dyno sheets or numbers

when you say it's too small for the engine.. what does that mean.. like it'll only push 3-4 psi and not 6 psi?

i ran into a money problem and will be completing the bone yard boost in the spring.. but i gogin to try and keep it just that.. bone yard.. using dsm manifold, 14b turbo, s-afc hack, dsm injectors, starion fmic

things i never took into acount were the fpr, fuel rail, fp gauge, oil feed and return line, tapping the oil pan, fuel pump.. along with the intercooler piping and the couplers and the clamps

seems as though with my setup though.. i'm goign to be keeign the a/c but shaving the trans casing and maybe some of the webbing on the engine itself.. i think also i will be losing the front engine mount

with a 14b you will probably be at full boost at about 2k rpm. will spool instantly but lacks up top. just to small. at least if your keeping the oem dsm manifold get a 16g if not bigger

Dude that's dope as hell. You are the first person I'm aware of who did the ghetto-fabulous DSM-turbo-hack and had success. Good idea to go Uberdata, that does a great job in the almost-free department.

I would love to see some pics of the setup whenever you get the chance.

you'd be the man if you didn't get uberdata and you built your own fuel controller

well knowing a lot of other tuners who built several turbo hondas has helped me out a lot in my world of boosting the lude. paid 150 to get my ecu chipped and tuned (only 1 hour) got the dsm 450's and bov for free from a buddy, paid 250 for the front mount (31x12x3) larger than i need but looks great. i already had fuel rail and steel braided lines. am in the process of betting new block sleeved with some forged pistons and bigger turbo for this up coming spring. once the boost bug bites, it bites hard.

So let me clarify this.. I'm doing DSM blue-tops for my H23, it's to my understanding that I don't need to add resistors? H23 has factory resistor box?

No resistorbox is needed. Its there allready!
If you want you can see pics of my build last winter here Dorfuss sida - GARAGET - www.garaget.org
I made a custom mani but im going to build a new one that is not top mount for this summer... That is the one on the CAM models pictures

If you want to know, this is my setup:
Custom mani (splitpulse)
680 cc injectors
p28 ecu with hondata s300 (verry good and user friendly!!)
stock internals
WG with 6 psi spring
FMIC, universal with 2.5" piping
Innovate LC-1 wideband hooked up to hondata
3" to 2.5" DP, no catalytic converter (in sweden its a law to have those... )
2.5" exhaust from exotic racing
stage 2 clutch kit
and the turbo is a garrett t04 0.82 A/R

I would recomend that you don't go smaller that 0.63 the h23 have quite a big volume so any smaller and you want get a good breathing through the engine with a smaller turbo.
And don't go for any kind of piggyback on the FMU, its just nog gonna work as good as it will with a proper system and a wideband for tuning. And also get the car tuned properly or you will have a blon engine!!

Hope that might have answerd at least one question. sry if im spelling like an idiot but hey,.. im european, we're all idiots

I'm finishing mine up within the next month. She's all put together and ready to go. I just have to do the feed and drain from the turbo, weld up some brackets for my fmic and get a tune.

Turbonetics 50 trim
450cc blue tops
spec stage 2 clutch
obx (I know) ramhorn manifold
fmic/ aluminum hard piping 2.5"
custom 2.5" to 3" downpipe
greddy sp2 exhaust
tial wastegate
safc for the tune

excited!
