H22 Build for JRSC

So here is the beginning.
My 98 Prelude has developed some bottom end issues and I want to do a full build on a motor before the motor let's go.

I'm going to build this motor on the stand and just drop it in when it's complete.

I guess the first place I want to start is the block.
I'm starting with a used engine with 200,000kms so it needs to be refreshed.

First thing I want to do is build up the block to take the power. I know I need to have re block re-sleeved to take the increased power. What sleeves are the best to go with for this kind of build. I want this thing to last a long time so I want the best sleeves I can get.

After that I need to have the crank worked over and start looking at some connecting rods and pistons. What would be the best setup for this kind of a build.

I want to run the JRSC with the high boost pulley and make some decent numbers but nothing insane.

A build thread for something like this would be of huge help or someone who has done this kind of build.

What kinda numbers you looking for? There's a girl named carol that made 250whp with the edyn 9psi pulley, hytech header, and other mods.. Not sure what she had done to the block.. I'm sure u can find her build somewhere..she was in super street

I have a jrsc at the stock psi pushing 235whp and I have a stock bottom end..

It's hard and not cost efficient to try to get a lot more than 250whp out of it.. They're was a guy named shark or geramy or something on one of the prelude forums that made around 300.. You'll find the info you are looking for. Just do a little more searching

<----- Just shy of 300whp spinning the crap out of the SC....

motor has 8.5-1 comp or the numbers would have been way over 300whp

There is a civic on H-T that is running a setup really close to what I had only with higher compression who is over 300whp, 305-310 I believe.

My Endyn modded SC will be for sale soon. just getting it all cleaned up and all the hardware together before I put it on the boards.

geramy's setup would be the one to get, you aren't going to find a better s/c setup than it. Depending on your power goals if you just want simple sleeves the flanged ones would be sufficient but if you want a higher end build I would opt for the darton MID sleeves which will pretty much take all the abuse you can throw at them.

Well my plan is to shoot for 300whp or so. Any more than that would be not very usable IMO.

For the engine work I was not planning on having it re-sleeved, rather use one of those block guards. I know that there are some who make big power on these and others have nothing but issues but as it sits right now there is no one anywhere near me who can do this kind of work.

I also plan on running some hi comp. pistons in this setup. It will be run on pump gas so I will have to do some digging around to see what kind of compression I can run on 94 octane fuel.

I will have look into these threads/builds and see what I can gather from them.
I will be picking up the longblock this weekend and start the tear down. Should be lots of fun

So more than 300whp is definetly very useable, sticky street tires and a traction bar help a lot. My car is very daily driveable at 500whp when it was tuned at 430 it was also still very streetable so I wouldn't limit yourself like that. This is also by the way on pump gas.

I wouldn't worry about a block guard, thats designed to keep stock sleeves in check or otherwise prevent them from distorting under load, but the sleeves in our motors aren't the weak link it's the ringlands and block guard does nothing for that. People sleeve to use better pistons, and FRM isn't compatible with much of anything so sleeves allow the use of other pistons (forged), it isn't because our stock sleeves are too weak.

As for max compression in an H without the SC you can get away with like 12.5:1 I think but thats pushing it pretty close, I don't know how feasible that is with a S/C on it, especially a twin screw like that and the heat it will generate.

Thanks for all the input guys.

It looks like I will be doing a decent build on this car over the next few months or so. My motorcycle (2006 R1 with a shXt tun of mods to it) was run over while my boss was riding it. Insurance company will most likely pay me out on the bike and I will put that back into the car.

I don't think I will go with a JRSC as I can not seem to source one that is new. Looks like JR has discontinued the units

Was considering a turbo build but in my area there is no one that I would trust to do the sleeving and tuning of the car.
So this puts me at building a nice NA car. Would love to put down 250whp N/A but I also need to pass emissions as well so this is the route I will be going.

Thanks again for all the information guys. I will start up a new build thread as I have a lot of questions regarding it.

well I have a bad ass used JR for sale....

New Jackshaft, and bearings, 9psi pulley, Endyn modified IM adapter/blower complete kit minus the fuel pump. You would probably want larger injectors and something to tune it with.

only asking $1800 obo

Sorry to hear about your bike/boss.

Good luck with the build
