FI Exhaust--custom experience

I had a 2.25 inch custom aluminized steel exhaust installed last week. The resonator was removed and I kept the hi flow muffler I had on there (2.25 inlet, dual 3.5 outlets) and the design is just a resonator free piping from cat to muffler.
--well it sounds HORRIBLE in my opinion and I am really disappointed because I knew it would sound loud but i did not know it would have that whiny lawnmower noise. It has a definite lawnmower noise which i HATE. (no offense to anyone on here)
--Does anyone know of a straight through exhaust which is really low and pretty quiet and would still give excellent flow for a charged lude??? Please help with suggestions for low key performing exhausts? What about the Greddy EVO? Dunk?? Lemme know

well

How about trying to put on a resonator?

I have a nakayama muffler on, and its pretty deep. I like it alot. its 2.5". or i guess you could get an evo or n1...

Where can I get just a resonator that would fit that would also have the 2.25 piping??
Also--isnt the N1 really loud?

You can use a glass packed muffler (as a resonator), it would change the sound. It is the bullet type, they sell them at summitracing.com, or pretty much any auto parts store. Then you can get a chambered muffler, or just try it with the muffler you have. You don't really need to weld it, but it would be nice....

The bigger the better....

do you think using a glassspacked muffler in the middle of the exhaust as a resonator would drop the sound considerable? To the noise levels of like a Greddy Evo? I know it wouldnt work as well as an apex ws right? Also how much restriction would that muffler/resonator make in my exhaust flow?

If the muffler is the same inner diameter as the piping before/after, there is very minimal loss if any. Will the sound change, yes it definitely will. As far as the Greddy EVO, it depends on the rear muffler's design. The EVO is a straight through, but it had a big can and alot of packing, and the inner diameter is about 2.5" about 8" before and through the muffler.
The glass packed muffler in the middle will make a big difference in sound.....

I agree with the N1, it would be the best choice for a straight through exhaust, but it is loud, but because you want it to be straight through any design will be loud, because it is the resistence of the air to come out that reduces the sound level...

I think I'm going to try using a glasspacked type muffler as a resonator on my setup, I guess between the cat and the first bend is the best spot??
--Also, where can I find a glass packed bullet type with a small outlet, I can find a good inlet size but I cant seem to find an inlet with anything less than like 4 or 3.5 inches , is that how it goes?

The red one on the bottom is what I'm talking about. The bigger, the better. It shouldn't impede flow too much, but the sound will definitely be different, lower toned and less loud. And it'll cost $30 to do it.....

I can do cheap, like a complete exaust for under $100 without a shinny tip.

If I only had a garage (in the wizard of OZ music format)...

I will probaly get some new vid clips tonight. As for the exhaust question. If there is someplace than can Mandrel Bend a custom 3" Exhaust for u then go with it deff. If not I would deff Purchase Apex-i N1. It is the straightest through design out there, TRM is close but the connection right off the Cat the piping is a bit smaller there for about three inches. N1 only as one resonator also, and if u go to Apex-i's site they swear that there good old angled mufflers help flow and are not just for looks like everyone thinks!! N1 is the best bet, if u have to drive alot and sound is to much just put the silencer in, dont give up the HP b/c of noise or looks go with what lays down the HP #'s!!

As far as a 3" goesI've heard tht can be REALLY loud and although I love the power (thats why I dropped the major cash on the SC) I also heard tht it wouldnt really make THAT much of a difference for the boost level I'm at--I don't plan on upgrading till far down the road when standalone and buildup is an option for me.

--As far as the N1 I do agree that it is a great exhast and I considered it r a while but I really am hoping to go for something LOW key without having to use a silencer (I cant have any more attention from the black and white sharks who already love to follow me around).

--I am getting a glass pack put on as a "custom resonator" today and I will let you guys know if this solves my noise problem.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use two glass packs on our cars? I dont think this would pose an exhaust restriction would it? Since the diameter inside the glass pack would match the exhaust piping

truly this is a work of art.

apexi n1 seems low-hanging. any issues with excessive scrapes?

also n1 isnt stainless is it? sounds like high pitched buzzy fart?

i put on a glasspack shortly after the cat and it worked like a champ! The sound is excellent (deep, low tone) and it definitely did its job for 50 bucks. Thanks for the help OOG, now I have to figure out why the hell I have a check engine light on!!! It just happened! !##*!#@#!

Does hang low but I have yet to drag my N1 can, my Teins help alot with that also.
N1 is not stainless. And no it does not sound like a "high pitched buzzy fart", I dont know what u are hearing but mine never sounded like that and my N1 is alot deeper with the blower anyway!!

I got my 2.5" from brullen. Stainless steel all the way through. I really tried to make it stealth so I got 2 3" tips with a black cannister. I have a really long resonator on it as well. I don't need any more attention than I already get. I'm going to be painting my IC black soon as well.

Dirtylude, are you going to paint it or use a gun dye? I want to try the gun dye, the Al will still be very effective without paint acting as an insulator.

I was just going to paint it lightly. I wouldn't even know where to get gun dye, or it's equivelant here in Canada. Any ideas? I just want to take the shine off of it.

I actually made ducting for mine, it minimized the reflective IC. I'll stop by a gun store and look for the dye. Maybe an air conditioning catalog may have a non isulative paint for Aluminum fins..... I am on a mission, hehehe....
