Exhaust manifold hole??

I'm looking at my exhaust manifold right now, and I see there's a hole with an approx .7 cm diameter. it's on the 2nd 'pipe' about 1.8-2" away from where it would mount onto the block. The hole looks drilled. Why would anyone drill a hole in the exhaust manifold? EGT?

Thought so, I had never heard of anyone actually drilling the e.manifold to do this, but oh well, sounds good I guess , lol. By the way, is an EGT very useful to have? I've read that it is. How do you interpret the data it gives you?

For everyday use, unless you are a tuner, no. you might as well weld a spot to plug it.

As for reading it; rich/lean, advanced or retarded ignition all affect EGT.
