I remeber back in the hondaprelude.com days, people were trying electric supercharges, and it would kill there battery in a very short amount of time.

They did gain 15-20whp...

Haha, oh well

I'm gonna go with him to that guy's shop sometime within the next 2 weeks. He wants to put one of these in his Porsche 944.

Maybe the guy will give us a demo or it or something. I found an article on the guy: http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/04..._supercharger/

Seems like a cool, innovative guy

Actually this one is legit.

Disclaimer on this one is that I have never tried it personally, nor seen one that has, however, all his physics are legit.

The one he is selling is far far different from your standard Ebay-bilge-pump affairs. This one really can a standard size compressor, but requires a lot of electrical setup to properly work.

The catch with this system is that the power supply and the charging system are elaborate. There must be a separate power system to power the compressor motors, which pull major major amps. If you want the system to be useful, you have to use Batcaps instead of batteries, which are about 2x more expensive (but not too bad weight wise). You really should run the motors at 48v, which means that you have to use Batcaps in parallel. Also, the charging system must be designed from scratch, because you have to convert the standard alternator voltage of 12v into 48 (or higher).

Another issue is current. In order to compress air, something like >15HP is needed from the electric motors. In order to generate that pressure, it equates to several hundred amps of continuous draw. Current of that magnitude requires short cabling (no trunk mounting) and very think gauge wire, or else resistive losses eat you up. Insulation is also a big concern, because arcing will damage some major stuff at that current load.

The concept I think is really cool. However there is a price to be paid with more weight (batteries, cables and such) and lots more wiring complexity. Also, you will need a higher current alternator in order to recharge your compressor batteries faster, which puts more load on the engine when not under boost.

The install is simpler than turbo/supercharger, but the complexity will get you if you aren't fully prepared for the ramifications.

I forgot to update you guys...

I went to see the guy with my brother's friend's dad. He seems like a really knowledgeable person. He didn't have any cars at his place with the supercharger installed, but he showed us the mounts he is making to put one in his Magnum and the other in some SUV, I think it was an Envoy? Anyways, this whole thing is legit. We got to actually see some of the units and some of the other stuff he was working on. Really nice guy.

I also forgot to add something. When I first found his pages, I did a lot of reading and calculation to get a handle on how his system works. I sent him an email asking lots of technical questions, and he responded within a day. His answers were very detailed and thorough, and he sent me diagrams as well. He has a really good handle on where his superchargers fit in with respect to forced induction.
