Drag slicks, Drag Radials, and Street slicks???

There's so many choices out there for track tires, and I'm not sure what to go with. There's the ever popular Nitto NT555R drag radials. There's of course Mickey Thompson drag slicks. There's Hoosiers, and all the other companies too. BFG has a set similar i guess to the Nitto drag radials. Hopefully in this forum of high hp cars we'll be able to get some good info about all the choices and get some personal experience and favorite's recommendations. I'm looking to purchase mine within 1-2 weeks, so i am hoping for some solid information from you guys.

I was planning on the NT555R drag radials until a buddy of mine from up north who races the all motor class insisted the only tires worth going with at the track are REAL drag slicks, for example MT. He was telling me I won't have any better success with the street slicks like the NT555R drag radials. So what do you guys run and show success with?

with your hp#'s i wouldn't go with slicks unless you have upgraded axles, it sounds like a recipe for disaster. you should be fine with drag radials. just get a set of nitto's and throw them on your stock rims, and then get to the track as fast as you can so you can wash your hands clean of that 15 sec. timeslip.

What psi should i run the nittos? And would it be better on a 15" rim or 16" rim?? Can we fit 15" rims on our cars?

i'd run a 15" if you could, probably be lighter. the lighter the better. if you could get your hands on some itr rims, they would be nice for the track. rota slip streams are pretty popular also. i would drop the pressure on the radials to around 23psi if i were you, you've got the power.

For now I think I'm going with the Nitto NT555R drag radials and a quaife LSD. That should help my times out considerably, and from that point I'll start considering axles, and drag slicks.
