Do you *have* to have it, no...Is it a very wise decision to have one YES!!! If I had one I wouldn't be on the blown list. It senses knock and detonation and automatically retards timing or shuts the car down if it senses detonation, that way it shuts the car down or puts it in limp mode be fore something very bad happens.

new units go for $450 or $495... (ya they're expensive) but you can find perfectly good used units for much less.

Install is about 30min to an hour for a first timer.

Why not get both the safeguard and TE O2 sensor and tune it. Why only get one or the other?

your wideband wont protect against detonation.....
ive been reading up on it and a J&S will most likely save the motor in case of detonation occurs even if your car is tuned....

on that note youre gonna need both anyway

well if your car is tuned and your not runnin cheap ass gas on obsurd amounts of boost you shouldn't detenate. What the main cause of detenating?? Running lean. The wideband will tell you if your running lean. It will show you your runnin lean before u start to detenate where as the j&s adjust after u start to detenate.

Detonation is caused by the remaining air/fuel mixture exploding at once which puts a lot of pressure on the pistons, etc... So to control this from happening you can retard the spark. J&S will do this. So I would recommend getting not only a wideband which is great for tuning but also a J&S to stop detonation.

well when i see anyone that has over 350whp and still use it maybe i'll think about it. It seems that the only people i see using it are the people boosting less then 12-14lbs on stock motors.

That doesn't mean it is right. Do a search and I am sure you will find that a lot of people recommend it. Call up soem good shops and they will tell you to use it. And say people don't tell youto use it, why not spend a few hundred on a system that will prevent detonation.

I only boost 6lbs and I have a J&S. It's gone off too! I know others that boost low like me and use one aswell.
