cold air intake/turbo filter question

ive got a turbocharger 3 inch diameter connected to a 2.5 inch tube that is connected to a 3 inch diameter air filter. common sense says i should buy a 3 inch pipe to just run straight through instead of downgrading and then bottlenecking back up at the turbo. but since i gotta swap the pipe anyway my question now is about the pipe length. i have battery delete (or i think its in the trunk rather) so i dont gotta worry about space, right now my pipe is about 17 inches (to put the filter where the battery used to be) with a 3 inch long filter on it, about 6 inch coned down to 5 inch diameter.

1. should i put on a bigger/longer filter since i have no space issues?

2. does longer or shorter pipe give any pros or cons? my only guess is that whoever did the setup put a longer pipe on there so that the filter isnt sucking up air that already went through the radiator. does this make any difference on a turbo setup since its going through the intercooler anyway? and does colder air going in help spool quicker or is it the opposite way around? (i know hotter turbo spools faster right? cause they make those heat shields, so do you actually WANT hot air going into the turbo??)

any insight greatly appreciated and thanks you rock in advance

no you want colder air on any engine setup, that's what the intercooler is for to cool the air from the hot turbo

the heat shield is for the exhaust housing side of the turbo reflects the heat so your hood doesn't change colors, a turbo blanket would be better to keep all the heat in the exhaust flows out faster & reduces the engine bay temp significantly
edit: this also helps reduce turbo lag & increase turbo spool time(faster)

i would just get a Hks Mushroom 3 element air filter, apexi, or k&n, no need for long bulky ugly air filters taking up space(people at meets would make fun of you for that stuff)

the inlet pipe doesnt really matter how long it is on turbos, just dont have it going around like a maze or cai style & you should be fine

if your turbo inlet is three so should the pipe

hope i answered your ?

you do realize that you dont have an intake to the IM anymore once you go Turbo?

Your intake is off of the CH that is then forced through to the Charge Pipe (usually to an intercooler) that is the routed back to your IM.

You cannot just use an OTS Intake if you are turbo'd.

you know what.....here you go...simple answer

YES**

**I in no way condone your actions or accept responsibility for your applications of said Intake Purchase
