Check Valves

Hey guys, I have the aluminum "missing link" check valve from importparts.com. I've heard that if you have this check valve that you only need one, but my ECU is still readying boost... What kind of check valve systems are you guys running? Also, what kind of power have you guys put down at the wheels on the dyno? My lude only ran 175 on 5 psi. Since then i have fixed a few fuel issues and the car is running better but not where I think it should be. I have a feeling that my problem is that the ECU is reading some boost and is pulling timing, because all the other variables have already been checked out (fuel curve, amount of boost). Are there any other problems that could be causing the engine to bog?

On the wideband O2 sensor, high end i was actually running a little lean, but the power was still not there. Argghh I'm estimating only about 185-200 ATW right now.

Oh yes one more thing =) I since that dyno run I've changed my FMU ratio in my Vortech from 8:1 to 12:1, and the car got faster but she's still reading completely rich. Since this fuel system was meant for 7-8 psi i'm thinking about turning up the boost to see if that fixes the problem

sorry about the post being so long, thanks guys...

I don't understand. Changing the rate from 8:1 to 12:1 will richen it up. Why would you think otherwise? That's a pretty high rate. I assume you have stock injectors.

Do you have a VAFC?

How do you know the car is seeing boost? Because of the bog?

What's the specs on your turbo? Is it a kit turbo?

Turn up the boost.

I have Fields SFC-VTEC so pretty much the same thing as a VAFC. I changed it from 8 to 12 because at some points it was running lean, so its better to raise base pressure and then lean out the rest with the SFC-VTEC.

I know the car is seeing boost cause after i reset the ECU, the check engine light doesnt' come on UNTIL i use boost.

Yeah its a drag gen 2, j&s safeguard, vortech fmu, sfc-VTEC, 5 psi.

So you're throwing a code. What code is it?

I was asking about the VAFC, since if you give it positive enrichment values it can report positive pressure to your ECU even though the check valve is working fine. The SFC has a 0 pressure cut. If you have this, then it's unlikely the ECU is seeing boost.

I know this is pretty obvious, and you probably wouldn't even get the car running this way, but you don't have the check valve in backwards, do you?

hi dirtylude, thanks a lot for the suggestions. I didn't know that if you use the rich out the curve with the SFC that the ECU could read it. Well, I'm going to try setting those rich points to 0. Come, to think of it, after I reset the ECU, and the SFC is set to all 0, there is never the problem with the ECU.

Hehe, good thought, but the check valve is in the right way =) I blew through it to check =)

the ratio 8:1 does not mean that the vortech unit will get you to an 8:1 a/f ratio, its the ratio for the amount of fuel pressure rise per pound of boost. going from an 8:1 to a 12:1 increases 4lbs fuel pressure more per pound of boost.

Also, the fields unit will allow the ecu to see a tiny bit of boost, even with its map limiter functions. You shouldn't be increasing because that will cause the map to go off like dirty lude said.

A bit of caution - if you are using the 8:1 ratio, and ADDING fuel, then you are in serious trouble. Use the 10:1 and TAKE AWAY fuel.

Also, if you are running a super V trim turbo on a t3/t4B, you may be experiencing VERY LEAN conditions from 2krpm to 5k rpm. if this is so, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE 8:1. You risk blowing up like my friend did (drag gen 3 lude, hes on this board, was on this board.)

haha yeah i know that about the ratio (an 8:1 a/f? =P )

ok taking out the increasing part of the curve. The reason i did have to give it a little extra because the a/f would read lean in that region before vtec but with full boost (like 4, 4.5k to vtec).

yeah the reason i changed to 12 to 8 in the first place is because the tuners suggested it for just 5 psi....and after the switch, the a/f STILL read rich, which ended up to be wrong according to the wideband on the dyno.... thus the change back to 12

there's a drag gen 3 for ludes?? I only knew of a gen2.....

theres no drag 3, just his username is that.

Post up your dyno graph and we can help you out more.

damn i can't find my sheet, well recalling what was on there, it looked EXACTLY like a stock ludes dyno, with a max peak at 175 at the wheels....
