if money is an issue, you might want to consider a different route. turbo's get expensive quick if something doesn't go according to plan. the savings from getting the cheapest kit may not offset having to get other stuff later on if you didn't plan things properly. there's a lot of things that need to be or should be upgraded or modified when you add the extra power. you'll probably want a new clutch to get the extra power to the ground plus you'll have to consider standalone engine management systems so your turbo runs properly. I'm not saying don't go turbo, if that's what you really want to do then by all means go for it. however, just make sure you RESEARCH a lot more before getting yourself into it. besides, make sure it's really want you want because your tastes might change a little bit after time. I know I was really intent on the turbo route until I went autocrossing for the first time, now all I can think of is dropping money on my suspension.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope that shed some light on something. And to answer the original question... MaxRev is probably the one of the more cheaper kits I believe.

Just keep reading the threads in the FI forum... and make sure to check the archived threads too. Plus just do searches on any topic you want to find information on at the time. It's not the fastest process... but it'll save you a lot of money and headaches down the road. Make sure you know exactly WHY you're putting whatever in your car. Understand WHY things work the way they do. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions... i can't guarantee an answer as I am still doing my own research... but i'll do my best to answer any questions you have. Plus, take advantage of the vast knowledge of all the members on this board.

Key thing... IF YOU DON'T KNOW... ASK!!!

A couple months ago, i bought a turbo kit minus IC piping for
$1500. It turned into a bit more. Keep in mind my setup is pretty weak compared to most other boosted ludes.

Used Turbo kit $1500

I knew i needed some IC piping, and knew i could get some bends from jcwhitney.

$120.. damn, not cheap, but necessary

piping welds, and welding for the IC to the car, and bumper cutting $125

Need some more couplers too. ~$100.

A BOV would be nice. used $130. Crap..needs a flange too! $15
Hmmm...needs to be welded on. $20

Turbo kit wasnt made for my car, so the DP didnt jive with the rest of the exhaust. guess i'll go 3" and i'll be needing a new muffler.... $300

Need a boost gauge..... $55, and a pillar! $30

Turbo timer is better than sitting in your car and waiting $120

Need some hose to hook up that air filter $40

Other hoses for fuel, oil return $20

Vaccum hose $15

Fittings for oil pan $10

New oil pan and exhaust mani gaskets $35

Welding on oil pan to patch the hole i made in the wrong spot $10

Oil and filter, of course $20

Cap, rotor, wires, plugs $100

A/F gauge...not exact, but better than nothin $55

Wire, connectors for gauges, fuel pump $10

Keep in mind, im poor. every penny is goin toward this bish.

Just got an MSD used $100 .....bought a coil today...$40

Got some bigger injectors ($50..i got a deal )

Relocated battery with 0 gauge wire. ~$80

Very near future plans... approximate prices...some are guesses

EGT $150
wideband 02 sensor $200 - $250
FPR $120
Fuel Rail $120
SAFC - $250
electronic oil pressure gauge $100
electronic fuel pressure gauge $100

Driving 800 miles over xmas break and not knowing if im gonna break down or not in 10 degree weather.....priceless

Dont go thinking i have money...ive sold just about all of my material posessions to fund this project. video games, video game systems, $3000 worth of car audio, time off work to do the install, my nitro powered RC truck, blah blah. was it worth it? uhh...yeah...

my DRAG 4 system cost 2,900 plus, 100 for a headgasket, 260 for a ProfecB boost controller, 400 for a J&S Safeguard unit, and about 350 for gauges and pod.

Total: 3,510 so far.

You may want to just go with nitrous instead, no extra parts needed there and the installation is cheap.

buh_buh, I have ZEX right now. It's a lot cheaper to fill a bottle then drop 4G's at one time.

I have to agree with AsianPersuasion. If money is going to be an issue, I would say wait. I started this turbo project around June or July and I have already spent well over 6000 dollars and that's with no internal work. The thing with FI is that it's not very reliable unless you do things right from the start and that gets really expensive. If something goes wrong, you are going to want the money to get it fixed. I know nothing about the NOS route though.

Good luck with whatever you decide and as I said before, you can learn a hell of a lot from this site! Enjoy

yeah, that's true.
But I have a friend who had N20, and he said he refilled once every 5 days or so. And how much does it cost? like $40? $60?
It probably is easier to do that than to drop $4g's all at once, but in the long run it adds up too.

Usually runs about 3 bux a lb. so 30 for a tank. Nitrous is great for those who want to mess around with people every now and again. Turbo's are for peepz who want to constantly be quick.

Yea, nitrous is great for people who want the power at times, but dont have the money for a Turbo or Supercharger. Yes, the cost of nitrous can add up, and after you buy the accessories you want, the it win run you about 1000-1500. Then 30 per refill, which most people on the nitrous board arent refilling that often. A full 10 bottle at a 60shot will alst quite a while. If you want to have the extra power all the time, then nitrous is not for you, cause you would be going through a bottle a week, and thats 120 a month. Financing a Turbo would be cheaper. Check out both the FI and Nitrous boards, search old post. Lots of info.
