Car Update...Very Sad Story

Well heres the deal. I've had my car at the shop for a month, calling twice a week getting the same "We havn't had time to look at it yet" response. Yesterday they call me "Yeah we were wondering if you would be interested in swapping out your motor with your setup (my built motor, with custom turbo kit and standalone and everything else is worth about $13,000 dollers), for a Good Condition Completely STOCK engine.

RECAP

So basically They told me what a ****ty job the place that did the motor the 1st time did, that lasted 1200 Miles. They Repaired it Charged me $7000.00 (they told me $4500.00, then when I picked it up they said, well we had to do this this and that so it came to be $6985.00). They told me be easy on it not over 4500 RPMS for the first 1200 miles. I run it for 2200 miles changing oil every 500 miles, not going over 4500 RPMS, get up to the track in Denver CO (about 4 hours away) first time taking it over 4500 RPMS it breaks again. Is this not Bull****? What should I do, I'm highly thinking Lawyer Time. They still haven't told me exactly what is wrong with my motor, they just said We'll Trade you.

I think I'll be selling and just getting an SUV, If I get another Honda/Acura, or any other sports car for that matter there will be too much temptation.

argh. i'm really sorry to hear this.

do you have some more details for us; specifically, who did what work? it sounds like the place you have it at now is not the place that did the work the first time around. what was done? who did the machine work, the labor, the r/r, etc?

PFI in Fort Collins Colorado is who did the work. The Very First time the Car was done (by someone else not me) was Import Sports Performance in Denver CO. PFI did all the work on the Car. I'm not sure who did the machining work. Alot of people Reffered me to this place, and they seemed to know their ****, but after this happened I'm all the sudden finding people that say they are shady. Anyone in Colorado that knows of a place to have work done let me know, If I have to pay for this I'm not letting them do the work fixing it. I might try and go to import sports again, Supposedly the guy I got the car from had them just throw it together to sell it.

I understand how you feel, and it shouldn't be your fault, at least from what you have described. They basically has no way of running from it. First they insist the place that did your first install screw up, and you pay them 7000 to make everything right, but turn out that 7000 did nothing since you are back at square one. Either they admit to swindling you of 7000, or get them to fix it right. However, I doubt you will trust the workmanship of that shop again. God knows what will happen next time.

On the other hand, you can always quote the lawsuit between Peter Farrell's Supercar against Gordon Monsen, which in short award judgement favorable to the consumer. The details of the case is long, but you can search the rx7forum for more details if you want.

wow, this is crazy.

at this point, i might even give up on the car if i were you. a lawsuit is a lengthy and sometimes expensive proposition with little returns in the end for your time and effort.

send your motor out and get it built out of state.

but just a question, weren't you the guy who had his motor dynoed right after a fresh rebuild. i remember you posting up your dyno numbers before even picking the car up or soemting like that.

for seven grand you can have a crated turbo biult motor sent to you from AEBS and there stuff is bomb proof supposedly. I would get the money back and go for AEBS, they do very good , very expensive work.

7 Grand entailed the new custom spec turbo and everything. Aside from that they did dyno it after it was finished (328 WHP 285 Tq(not positive on tq)). The motor was built to 6 thousandths clearance to help with a quick break in, but still shouldn't have been dynoed right after the rebuild. It's a sad deal, and this motor was supposed to be bullet proof, from everyone I talked to sad yeah it's a great shop etc...Who knows everyone has a bad apple sometimes, they can't all be perfect, but that doesn't mean this shouldn't be taken care of at their expense.
