Boom clunk clunk clunk lol

OK for those of you who don't remember me. I have a 5th gen SS with a rev hard turbo. The turbo is set at 7 pounds and the rest of the engine was stock. When I got the turbo installed my engine blew. They put a japanese H22 in and everything was good to go. A side note about the blown engine is that I found out that the mechanic hooked up the turbo wrong. I was told that he didn't properly hook the tube to the wastegate and that the turbo gave the engine max boost and then it went boom. So anyways, the day after I finally got my car back the tranny went out. Now heres the thing the tranny had been having issues before the turbo. It was grinding going from drive to reverse and vice versa. WHen I was at a stop light with the brake applied it would rev on its own. It would jump into 4th gear. All that kind of stuff. Well I was driving home from work the day after I got my car back and it went into 2nd gear and wouldnt shift anymore. It wouldn't even shift into reverse. It would physically shift, the tranny just wasnt responding to it. I got it to a transmission shop and the guy was gonna do a rebuild and he called me up and told that the tranny case and the valve body was burned and warped. I went down to look at it and it's bad. I was wondering if anyone has run into this issue before. Like iI said the tranny has been having issues since I got the car in Feb. I came up with a theory that the guy that had it before me would rev it in neutral and drop it into drive to smoke his tires. That prolly threw something off to cause more rubbing inside the transmission which caused more heat and burned out parts in the transmission. Any advice on this would be appreciated. I dont think it was the turbo that caused it, maybe the turbo put the nail in the coffin, but I dont think it was because of the turbo. Anyways if you read thanks and please hit me with any experience you may have.

Weak tranny + boost = scrap metal

the ss trannies (as I'm sure you know) are the weak link in the system; the tranny was probably going bad, and the extra power did it in.

time for a 5spd swap! if you don't go that route, make sure you do your research for an SS rebuild; the failure rate for rebuilds run around 50%, IIRC.

I had my tranny rebuilt with level ten stuff, but one year later it's starting to go again. I always had a problem going into fourth even after the rebuild. So I would think it's the internals going bad and rebuilding isn't going to help much. My mechanic said he would try to rebuild it again under warranty, but I opted for a remanufactured one from Howard Engineering.

Here is the problem... you have boosted a motor with a SS tranny. I drive one, but am perfectly aware that this tranny has issues. You may want to look into a 5sp swap. It will probably save you 10-20 headaches in the future.

Bought the car aug 2003. literally 4 months after i got my car my tranny went bad, SS tranny that is. I got it replaced at atomic transmissions in addison IL and i had ONE problem after that, which when i took it back they replaced. Up until June 2005, which is the last time i drove the car (sigh) the tranny was holding up STRONG, and taking the massive beating i would give it always driving in SS mode and literally flooring every gear (thank god that phase is over)

But now i'm the middle of a 5 spd swap so we'll c how it goes when i get it back
