better ring lands

ring lands seem to be a problem with boosted ludes, has anyone tried to get some custom made. I know it would be a good amount of $ but it might be worth it if they don't break. I want to push 10 psi and every person that blew theirs on that list has blown ring lands at 10 psi.

I'm guessing you don't know what ring lands are. There the area on the piston where the rings go. The rings are spaced closer together and are higher up on the H22a engine because it's a NA car. The higher the top ring the better it is for emmissions and a strong ringland with lots of space between the rings are not needed for NA.

In order to change the ringland, you would need to change the whole piston. It's impossible to modify or move the ring package on an existing piston. So, buying forged aftermarket pistons is the only way to improve the ringlands.

oh well thanks now I learned something. Someone told me they were something else kind of like a bearing. Teaches me to be careful who I listen too.

one thing that would be nice for the prelude aftermarket would be cast pistons of a slightly stronger alloy than stock, with more generous lands... this way you could use stock sleeves, and be able to run low boost without fear.

having to sleeve the block and use forged slugs is a bit extreme for most people in the 6-10psi range.

ah ok now I get what they are. Sorry that happened to you if only all cars and mods could work perfectly. Is there any way to toughen the lands at all other than having a completely custom made piston from like titanium LOL.

you could try to coat the piston(swane), but i dont think thats ever really worked. i've heard a few stories of people trying, but never a recommendation. I think you'd save yourself a lot of time and effort by just getting an aftermarket piston. that way you can boost till your hearts content (or your tranny decides she wants a divorce and both the kids).
