any clutch experts here?

I am thinking of buying this used clutch and am wondering if it shows any signs of damage. I am probably going to take it to a machine shop and have it resurfaced, but need to know if anything is out of the ordinary.

Is that something a simple resurfacing will take care of?

Yah, but that leads me to believe that the clutch disc won't have much life left.

I guess I'll have to factor in a new clutch disk from Exedy and see if it's still worth buying. Thanks.

I've never seen a clutch made like that before. That is really interesting.

What kind of surface does the clutch have? My guess would be cerametallic. I am surprised the clutch face does not have more structural reinforcement near the center radius. Can you tell me the brand and type?

Isn't the clutch surface (seemingly the whole thing) just kevlar?

It's an Exedy Hyper Carbon clutch. The seller was advertising as a dual clutch but obviously it's a single (the box is the correct one for a dual though). Since he doesn't know how long it was used for I passed on the deal. He says his friend gave it to him. I would think a friend good enough to give him that clutch (worth $1600 new) could be contacted easily to find out the mileage lol.

That is a twin disc clutch, the other disc/plate are missing from the picture or he doesn't have them. You can tell by the tall stand off mounts on the pressure plate where it would bolt up to the flywheel.

Looks like a single. The twin disc has a different pressure plate:

But that clutch looks pretty beat. Both pressure plate and flywheel show heat marks that can, over time, lead to cracks and fatigue.

I passed on the deal. If another good deal comes up I'll go for it. Otherwise I am currently looking at a different car so the stock clutch should be good for a while. It's funny how I am at a tuning shop getting my Vortch tuned right now and am thinking about another car . After the car comes in, I'll take a look at it to see if I want to buy it. If I end up getting the car, I'll post pics hehe. This will probably take about a month. Thanks for all the response guys!

Those were some serious heat spots, and a good amount of wear out the outside of that disk.
