I bought my 01 base 5 speed about 10 months ago and since then i have put about 23k miles on it...
On my very first run with my car i ran a 15.6. At the time i was all stock exept for an ingen cai.
I continued to modify my car and I ended up running a 15.4 ....
I had:
iceman cai, dc headers, 2.25in cat, rs r exhaust, and pullies.
Still slow for a fith base
now i've added and act HDSS clutch and fidanza 8lb flywheel and i am running 16.0s at the track...
I know the flywheel would slow me down but i didn't think that much...
BTW I had CRAZY wheel hop on every take off. So i put on es motor mounts and, just my luck, it didn't help.
I can manage 2.2s in my 60(even with the wheel hop) but I just slow down after that...
Hmmm interesting. My best time this past week when i went to the track was a 15.5 with a decent launch, i hopped a little but not bad. It definitly could have been better, you have the feather the clutch at about 2500 to get a good launch. All the other rpms and techniques i tryed i ended up spinning like crazy then boging second, or hopping very bad. So i'd say your 15.4 you got was good. I dident know a flywheel would slow you down that much though

a lighter flywheel should increase your accelleration due to less rotating mass. When I put my 9lb flywheel in my times went up at first just due to learning to launch with it.

Practice launching so that you don't get any wheel hop. Just keeping experimenting with your launch rpm and feathing, until you get it right. It takes a lot of patience and dedication, but if you stick to it, you'll get better.
I have 188whp and my best time to date is 14.315@96.62 MPH. Before I got a good launch with no wheel hop my best time was 14.9. When I got my launch down it dropped to 14.6. Then I gutted my rear, went to 14.5. Then through more practice, i hit a 14.4. I could hit that consitently, then the weather was great and I hit a 14.315. There is no replacement for persistence. Keep it up!

Launch, miles on the car, track quality, weather, etc can all account for slow times. And when your talking tenths of a second it doesnt take much.
A stock lude is "supposed" to do 15.2, but thats with optimum conditions. Also, the mods you have done are not that significant. If you really want to see betters based on mods, get and SMSP header or upgrade your cams. That DC headers doesnt do squat, and the exhaust, intake etc are minimal in their improvements.
And yes, a lightweight flywheel will hurt your rag times. Because its lighter it doesnt hold momentum as well and therefore the rpms will drop quicker between each shift and you wont be able to stay in the powerband as well.
The last time I went to the track I got 16s. Thats with a CAI, DC header, testpipe, tanabe catback, and stage 2 clutch. But the track wasnt very sticky, my launches sucked, and the weather was a little muggy.
Going to the track on thursday to work on my runs... I actually sold the dc headers to make way for a set of vibrant headers... they should be in within the month.
I'm also looking into the PSPEC short shifter to help manage the rpm drop bettween shifts...
Now that I think of it... everyone here runs pretty slow... with a best of 15.4 I was the fastest 5th gen around these parts... but there are only about 4 or 5 5th gens around....
Still is kind of depressing... Oh well... I'm sure I will get better...
