Here's why...your engine is rated for roughly 200hp, so are your injectors.
(200hp x .50*) divided by (#of injectors,4,x.80, duty cycle)=31.25 this number is represented in pounds of pressure
convert the pounds to CC's by multiplying 31.25x10.50=328cc injectors
50. represents your brake specific fuel consumption this means that the engine will use .50 lbs. of fuel per hour for each horsepower it produces. Turbocharged engines will want to be at .60 lbs. per hour or higher. But your using Nitrous so we'll go with .50
Now tack on another 100hp to that...
300hp x .50 =150 4x.80 =3.2 150/3.2=46.87lbs convert CC's and that's 492cc injectors that are required to keep things wet.
The 500cc injectors are insurance. $300.00 of a good set of injectors are far cheaper than a set of piston rings. A wet shot is safer no doubt because it mixes directly with the fuel.
Think of it like this you thow a party, everyone's having fun but chances are not every boy there is going to find a girl. Same thing with the air(boys) and the fuel(girls), your pumping in 100 extra hp worth of air and you still have the same about of gas(girls) going in. What you have now is a sausagefest inside your H23. You can be sure that everyone is finding a partner but you may not like what they are doing. (don't laugh) When you run lean the and don't have enough fuel the next thing thats going to burn is Aluminium. The key thing with nitrous is controling the fuel and the tempatures. You want to keep things cool in there, you may have taken steps and gotten colder plugs, that's great, but there are other things you can look into doing, Longer duration cams are a good start. The longer duration cams will allow more time for the cylinder to "Blow down" thus another for of controling the heat. However your ultimately limited by the cams available, Brian Crower stage 3's. At that point your limited on compression also, you have to have a higher compression ratio to run those cams, and if your getting on the inside of the motor you might as well Swain-tech the hell out of anything that will touch the fire.
Here's probably the best thing that you can do to keep running that set up safely. If you want to go Cheap, get a set of DSM 450cc injectors and resistor box($100), scale the shot back to a 75 shot until you get some kind of piggy back system. If you get a greddy you can retard the timing and adjust the fuel maps. These can be had relatively cheaply. A good rule of thumb is to take out 1 degree of timing for every 50hp your shooting. 13.9 was a decent run but with some proper tuning you can have much more.
