tires and wheels for strip?

I have been to the track a good bit this summer and my 60 and 330 ft. times are kicking the s@$# out my trap and et. wanting to put some slicks on my stock wheels though i have run into some problems finding sizes. was really wanting bfg et streets but it doesn't seem they make a size to wrap that size wheel and fit ok. i could be wrong though, i just know i haven't had any luck so far. any suggestions?? im hoping to get my 60' down to around a 1.8, 1.9. get this down and keep from back peddling out of the hole and i am hoping to get low 14s at around 96-98 mph. does that sound out of reason? car is making somewhere in the 185-195 hp range by looking at the dynos i have.

on bfgs with a 15" rim my 60s are 2.1-2.2s usually. youre going to need a slick to drop it in the the 1.8 area. traction has always been a prelude problem area. You should be able to hit 14s with bfgs.

Thanks. I can get 2.3's fairly easy most of the time, i just have to bare through the wheel hop. so far my best times have averaged in the mid to upper 14 range, traction is killing me right now. worst thing is race season is about over with, maybe a few more test and tunes before it gets too cold. oh well guess i'll have to start drift racing. what size tire are you running on that 15" wheel? and what type of wheel are you using?

I run Mickey Thompson 22x8x15 slicks on a pair of stock rims. My average 60' is 1.94, but I have managed a few 1.8's. I don't have nearly the power you have, so maybe you could do better than I.

If you spend any considerable amount of time on the track, then I would definately recommend slicks. I played the traction game for a few years before buying my slicks, and I promise you I will never go back.

I think the BFG drag radials are really good, but by no means do they come close to performing like the slicks will.

im running 215/50 if i remember correctly.... sorry its been awhile since i checked the drag racing forum... but i can check tonight when i get home to make sure. the rims im running are Kosei K1s. Tire rack used to have them but i only see 16" avail now. Any Type-R rim will work. just make sure you have stock calipers.... its litterally about 3 sheets of paper clearance.

i havent upgraded to slicks yet because i really want to 1. wear out the BFGs 2. try and improve upon my times with the BFGs and 3. need a new Ebrake to do the burn outs on slicks.

I know this thread is old but its only a few months till drag racing season starts again. You guys/gals that are running slicks...are you using aftermarket axles? I've heard stock ones break pretty easily.

in april im throwing on my full slicks. i run stock axles, and does several of our other high hp cars.

i broke 3 sets of fidanza axles. two of them were on the BFGs. i will never use them again. im not down to invest 800 bux for DSS. they are WONDERFULL axles, and a few of my customers use them with no problems. I would reccomend for price, stock axles...stay awa from fidanza, and DSS for those with larger budgets.

I've been on Mickey Thompson 22x8x15 slicks for a several years now, and I've only managed to break one axle. Of course, I don't have a high horsepower car, but I do launch at pretty high rpms.

I think you should be o.k. on stock axles for a while, but with enough power, I'm sure you'll realize the benefits of good aftermarket axles.
