My first run ever - Honda Prelude Forum

Ok guys/gals, I've never did the drag racing thing before and this was my first run. I could use advise, but have already figured out a great many things I did wrong...Here are my numbers and mods:

Milan Dragway
RT - .6469
60' - 2.5290
330' - 6.7692
1/8 ET - 10.2719
1/8 MPH - 69.57
1000' ET - 13.2690
1000' MPH - 83.02
1/4 ET - 15.7932
1/4 MPH - 90.71

Mods- JDM H22A swap, Stock intake, Stock exhaust - minus muffler, Ground control coil overs.

Tires - stock 16" "blade" style rims, with Nitto neo gen tires - tire presure dropped to 26 PSI front and raissed to 35 PSI in the rear...shocks adjusted to firmest settings in the rear, softest in the front.

I did not do a burnout, drove around the water box.

For your first run I don't think that's bad. My first run was like 16.6 and my best so far is 16 flat (5 runs total). It just take a lot of practice. On stock tires I have been told you don't want to do a burn out, next summer I want to get a nice set of BFGoodrich Drag Radials for the front and see what that does. Not bad though

Just dropped the torque mount inserts in yesterday, and plan to make one more trip to the track tomorrow if the weather clears up. I guess stock numbers aren't too far off at 15.4...

I thought the 60ft was most important for lowering your time? I could be wrong, I'm certainly no pro...I also thought RT was more for bracket racing, also could be wrong here...

HA HA yeah this is nothing compared to my 2004 Grand Am...total slowsville there, and it was a V6!!

Yeah I've thought about maybe some DOT tires. I've always felt Track, Autocross, and Drift is where the real talent is...that's just my opinion...but hey drag racing is cheap and it's fun...and as I found out it takes more skill than I initially perceived.

Ok so I went to Lapeer Dragway yesterday (10-31-09). I got quite a few more runs in this time and was able to best my previous time by almost 2.5 seconds!! Woo Hoo!

I've attached the time slip for everyone to see...I'm also including a link to a little video I put together of the one one I got on tape (Buddy of mine did the taping).

I've been looking around on dragtimes.com and it doesn't look like people do too much better on the 60' ET on street tires...think the best I saw was like 2.1XXX...anyone have a better 60' than this on street tires? I'm still working on my launches and hope to get that 60' down...but not too sure what to expect out of the Neo Gens.

Feel free to share any advise!

RT has nothing to do with your run. There's also no point in lowering your tire pressure, you're on street tires with a stiff sidewall anyway. No sense in doing a burnout either. Just give the wheels a quick spin to get the dirt off of them and you'll be good to go.

Thanks Wsteun! yeah if you see my vid I did a quick spin to clean the tires off. We did lower the tire pressure though, but you bring up an interesting point about the sidewalls...I think I could have hit at least a 15.4 without the strong headwinds...if that counts for anything.

in my 92 prelude with a jdm f22b i ran a 15.5 i think or a 15.4

either way i thought an h22 would be a lot faster...

work on your takeoff... you should be able to get 2.0 60ft

15.5/15.4 in a stock F22B is impressive IMO!

Though one thing you have weight advantage:

4th gen curb weight: 2,840 lbs
5th gen curb weight: 3,042 lbs

Yeah I hope to hit that elusive 2.0 60' I guess not too bad considering only the second time in my life at the track eh? As they say practice makes perfect.
