for obvious reasons having a wide tire helps the launch.

does having a low sidewall hurt it? so basically, not taking weight into consideration, will a 17" rim and tire launch better or worse than stock - assuming same outer diameter and width?

and just to avoid posting in another forum, what about handling?

depends on how stiff the sidewall is. If its a really stiff sidewall that wont give very much, then usually the tires will hop more on launch. A more flexible sidewall will help the launch a bit, but might hurt cornering handling because when you turn the softer sidewall will keep going in the current direction and refuse to turn as quickly

you want more sidewall when drag racing...it allows the tire to flex, putting less stress on the drivetrain. with stock brakes, get some 15" steel wheels from an oddessey and put an appropriate tire on it. the larger wheel also puts more mass near its perimiter, which gives the wheel more rotational inertia, making it more difficult for the wheel to accelerate.
