How you shift?

Hey guys, im wondernig how you guys shift at the track? from the beginning to the end?

I start off at about 4,000rpm's (stock tires) and feather the clutch in, then in 2nd i shift asap...making me do a spin out in 2nd gear (is this bad? should i feather in 2nd too?) and then rest of gears i shift hard but no chirps or anything.
is that how you all drive too?
just wondreing so my next time at the track will have high times

I launch at about 5300rpms and slip the clutch. You dont want to slip it again into second, just make quick clean shifts. And I hope that you want lower times rather than high ones.

if youre spinning into 2nd without FI or Nitrous that means the track is super slippery or your tires are worn to hell

launch @ 5200...slip clutch...take tach all the way to 8K and shift fast and clean into 2nd...each gear take it to 8K and shift fast and clean

If I shift into second gear without slipping the clutch a bit i'll light up my front tires... not good for my ET :P This is a subjective topic... what works for one car with one driver and a certain setup might be completely wrong for somebody else. Here's a general "rule-of-thumb" list.

1: On street tires you don't need a long burnout to heat up the tires, just spin them enough to clean off any loose bits of gravel etc.

2: Hold the rev's at a constant (me= 4500rpm, you=whatever works) and slip the clutch while giving enough throttle to remain at your constant RPM's. When the clutch is all the way out lay into the throttle and get ready for second.

3: If you can powershift 2nd without doing a burnout (me) then just stab the clutch and slap the gearshift down to second without laying off the throttle, be very very fast :P

4: You want to shift into third the same as second, third is an easy gear to miss so concentrate After that you should be good, just hang on till the little green light flashes on your side of the track

5: If you need 4th gear for the 1/4 mile then you're pretty fast already and you don't need to be reading this :P

peace,
mike
