Help me understand this...

Ok guys,
Last time I was at the track I was able to run consistent 14.4 sec 1/4 miles.
My trap speed was around 99mph.

My mods are I/E/55HP Zex

My 60' times were in the 2.2xx range.

What I can't seem to understand is; with a 99mph trap speed should'nt I be running low 14's or high 13's?

The FI guys are getting similar trap speeds but are running half a second faster than I am on average. Could it be due to the extra weight of my system and the nitrous bottle?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out where the 0.5 seconds are being lost.

Between 2.1xx and 2.3xx I believe. (6-8 psi)

probably in your first gear since I am assuming you dont spray in first... that would explain the higher trap for your ET..

Actually I do spray in first, but only after I have traction. So, somewhere around 4.5K rpm.

How big of a "system" are we talking about here? If you're tallking about a couple of hundreds pounds, then certainly that could be the difference. Keep in mind that coming out of the hole you're going to have to accelerate the entire weight of the car. This is where torque comes in handy. Once you're moving, the car doesn't have to make as much torque to continue accelerating; this is where hp comes in handy.

With a 99 mph trap speed you're making decent hp; you're problem is that you're probably not making as much torque as the FI guys.

then its in your launch.. while the FI guys have plenty of torque, you dont have the power they do until 4.5k, and since the launch is THE most important thing for your ET, then there you have it.. do some suspension work and get some drag radials/slicks then try to spray off the launch!
