i want to go to the strip to race my friend and his accord and also just to get a 1/4 mile time. How should i launch? I have never done this before, but i do have an idea about how to.
Develop a routine and follow it every time.
I always stage the same way everytime. Hold the rpms at the same time, and leave at the same light everytime. But here are some simple tips.
1. Roll up to the starting line, until you see the first set of small yellow lights light up. Now if your opponent is still doing a burnout, it is common courtesy to wait until he prestages before you trip the second light.
2. Now roll up slightly until you see the second set of small yellow lights light up. I stop as soon as I trip the light, that's called deep staging. some people will go further up which is shallow stagiing.
3. Hold your rpms steady, with the clutch in and in 1st gear
4. Don't wait until you see green, by then, it's too late. Leave around the 3rd yellow light
5. As you make it through the finish, don't slow down right away, go balls to the wall clearly past the finish line, to make sure you aren't slowing down to early.
6. If you are in the far lane and finish first, let the guy on the inside lane exit first, courtesy again.

the lights are .5 seconds apart, so your reaction time if perfect will be a .5. thats .5 seconds after the final yellow light. what i do is just punch it ON that third yellow. by the time i have done that, its green and ive whooped the guy next to me.
keep in mind, youre reaction times dont count into your 1/4 time. if they are doing 'street style' drags, then they will count those in. but the printout you get shows your 1/4 time and DOES NOT add in the r/t. you could just sit there for a few seconds after the tree has lit up if youd like, it wont affect your 1/t time.

You might want to drop tire pressure a bit for traction issues (depending no how much juice you have in your ride) and may also want to play with wheels. Traction == key, cheap rubber != traction. Factory rubber != traction. I'm also boosted, so i'm sure my experience is a little different than yours. I also heard you should rev a little hirer on the track than you do on street, due to rubber deposits and various other condition issues with track vs street.
"2. Now roll up slightly until you see the second set of small yellow lights light up. I stop as soon as I trip the light, that's called deep staging. some people will go further up which is shallow stagiing. "
Actually it's the other way around ...deep staging is when you roll through the pre-stage beem and light just the stage beem.
It will lessen you roll-out and can lead to better reaction times....however it also makes it much easier to red-light.
